Re: Current Happenings
there is a little learning curve, but it's not as bad as a lot of people think. Having locking tuners or using the string wrap locking technique is a must, esp if you play like I do. For me it is extremely worth it. and I really never play my six's anymore. The worst thing about it for me is wanting a new guitar that does something specific and NOBODY makes it. So I've modded a couple extensively and scratch built an sg with 24 frets and a trem. That one is my main now and has not failed me at a show yet. Set up and intonation need to be done correctly but once you've got it dialed in the sounds are glorious. If I play a six now it sounds thin and incomplete.

The blue shaded 12-string is going to be repurposed as an 8-string electric octave mandolin.
This should be fun!

Re: Current Happenings
Thanks for the votes of confidence everyone!
Over the past 4 years since I started doing this full time I have always had production hiccups and delays.
Whether it be the temperatures not working to lacquer, or my jointer accident that resulted in my not being able to work for a few months, or just running out of money again and again due to slow sales, or the delay while fundraising to get parts made etc etc.
What I'm saying is that so far I've never had a run of instruments get built and finished without some major interruption.
I'm really thankful for everyone that has bought/ordered an instrument for their patience as I work through these delays!
Now with these parts getting made a HUGE cause for delays will be worked out!
Hopefully now I can keep interruptions to a minimum and get a quicker flow to the building process!
Additionally once these new guitars are done I can start on some more new things.
One model I am excited to get started on will be one more neck- through guitar that should appeal to all the folks that aren't into the tulip shape!
The future is hopefully bright!!!! I have a few ideas for dealers to pursue and another idea to gain exposure!

Re: Current Happenings
Well so far they are fine I suppose.
Lark street is waiting for the new stuff to be done so they can check them out.
Gruhn does like my stuff but I think they are still sitting on the Coquette and the Bass VI they got from me.
They said they probably won't get more until those sell. I will probably offer to swap those for new stuff when it is done.
As for The Signal I decided to part ways a few weeks ago. They are great folks and nothing bad happened but I just think our business models don't mesh well at this time.

Re: Current Happenings
Yeah, I look at the Lark Street website every once in a while and it never looks like they have any Nelson Instruments in stock. So, I guess it's good they're selling 'em.
I hope your prospective dealers work well for you.

Re: Current Happenings
Well regarding Lark street (and any other dealer really) and their stock:
After they bought their first couple instruments the next thing I had was a run of acoustics. Nobody was interested in acoustics at that time so things got delayed while I tried to sell off the acoustics.
Also there were bass VIs which Gruhn took one and that was that.
This batch of stuff will be the first batch of regular electric guitars available since their initial orders!
That's why you haven't seen any new stock pop up. There hasn't been any! :-S
Hopefully that changes now!

Re: Current Happenings
Yeah, that would explain things. And, yeah, hopefully it changes. It'd be nice for you to build up a solid network of dealers.
