Trading BT jazzy for a bass?

Post by snipelfritz »

So I haven't played this guitar in a while. And it honestly needs a little work. Part of the nut came off when I put bari-strings on once without shaving it (silly I know) and the action is a bit wonky and it has some trouble staying in tune. Otherwise, it has been upgraded with fender hot rod pups and I put a better mustang style bridge in myself (why the action could use adjustment). I think there's one dent on it, but otherwise it's a decent guitar.

But as I'm finding, there's an influx of guitarists in this city and being a bassist/guitarist would be really helpful when it comes to finally hooking up with other musicians for something productive (not to mention bass is hella fun). I owned an Epi EB-0 at one point and would probably like something similar (short scale for my chubby hands) but I'm not set on that if something else grabs me.

My question is, what's the best way to go about trading my guitar? Should I bring it to a place like Music Go Round? What kind of value should I expect to get for it? And what kind of bass should I look for? The bass doesn't need to be amazing, just something that feels good when I play it.

Also side question, I have a '80 Fender 75 that I play guitar through. It's a 1x15 tube combo. Would it be acceptable to play bass through it? At least for practice?

If you take it to a store like Music Go Round, you're not going to remotely get what it's worth.

Unless you want a bass they've got, it's probably not worth it.

As weird dude says in the video, you want the guitar to be in good working order. If it plays all wonky, nobody's gonna wanna buy or trade for it. The more things that are wrong with it, the less you'll get for it. Is it worth fixing up to get rid of?

You'll make the most money selling it to someone directly, like on Craigslist or something.

As far as what bass to get, I'd say an EB-0 would be a good choice.

Your amp may be OK for practice if the drummer you play with isn't that loud. Also depends on what speaker's in the amp, but I'm not sure I'd wanna play bass through that amp regularly though. Probably better to get a bass amp.

Two things, I played the guitar and the tuning/action are at all as bad as I thought and actually not a problem at all.

Oooh, and I went to musicgoround just to mess around with basses and realized that I definitely can deal with a full scale instrument as long as the neck isn't super fat. I played a vintage lotus bass(the ones with the fatty fat body) that felt/sounded good for under $200. I think I'll clean up my jazzy and see about trading it for the bass and a basic amp.

Sounds like a plan.

Is this the kinda bass?

I've only played their Fender-style basses.

Yes, but without the neck pickup. That looks added.

I suppose I'll shop around the city a little more if I get time tomorrow.
