Intro / Anybody using Bass Fuzz boxes for Guitar??

Hi everyone,

Pretty new to the site. Been browsing but haven't been posting. LOVE this group!!

I have been primarily a singer, while playing a little guitar for necessities sake and fun at home. Although I pretty much suck, I am a bit of gear hound. I play a GMP Pawnshop Deluxe, Hamer Studio, Hamer Standard, Jackson Surfcaster, Fender Strat, Hamer Vector, Rustler Tele...

My basic setup for a while has been SHO/Fulldrive/Seing Eye modded DS-1/RAT/Hush/ (I have some other pedals but they aren't used much - have just needed basic tones) into either a Savage Macht 12 or H&K Tube 20 or Tube 50 (mainly for practice/backup).

I'm new to the fuzz game. I have recently added a J Everman Fuzz Drive to my arsenal which I now really like (it took me a while to find the right internal settings on it to get the sound I was looking for). Our band situation has changed, hobby/cover band, and I'm starting to play more guitar and realizing that my favorite guitar tones involve FUZZ in one form or another. I've been looking at adding more fuzz for variety and that's what led me here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So FINALLY my question (I tried a search but bass & fuzz are too basic for the search engine):

Does anyone here use fuzz pedals designed specifically for bass with guitar? If so why and what are you using? I'm intrigued by the concept of using a bass fuzz to get a really heavy fuzz tone. Although I'm also open to "normal" fuzz pedals that could get me in the realm of that doomy early Sabbath or Sleep type sound.

Ah, per below suggestion - My spending range is probably not more than $150 right now but since I buy most of my equipment used a more expensive pedal may come into play.

There are a ton of really bassy fuzz pedals out there and I bet a few people will suggest the Megalith pedal by Mountainking Electronics. I have a Bass Big Muff Pi that I use for the guitar and it works decently, but I think it could be better. You might want to suggest how much you want to spend on a fuzz since there are a ton of different ones out there that do wonderful things. A nice inexpensive pedal might be Devi's Super Massive Black Hole (now retired) or if you want to spend a little more there's Dwarfcraft's Hair of the Dog.

Well my guitar player keeps trying to borrow mine, so in a way yes.
I wouldn’t say bass specific, but here are a few those that work fantastic with guitar also

Fuzz hugger The Great Wall
Devi Super massive Black Hole
Devi Cherry Pop
With your budget, get a Devi Dark boost and a used Boss OC2 or 3.
Put them after your other dirt pedals.
In fact put the Dark Boost last just before your amp.
This will add tons of low end.

It's right on the edge of your budget, but the guitar demos I've seen with the Catalinbread SFT sound really excellent - I think it goes for the $160 range...

I use a devi bass fuzz once. It was FANTASTIC. I REALLY REALLY have no idea why she discontinued it. To be truthful it kind of pissed me off as i was planning on buying it. Im thinking of ordering a MEGALITH and just having him add the bass boost component onto that one. Unless we can convince her to add that circuit to the custom list.

Bassy boxes I often used with guitar:

Tronographic Rusty Box - Pre-amp not fuzz but gets some nice overdriven sounds.

Malekko Assmaster Germanium - Heavy, Gnarly Bassy Fuzz with lots of clarity due to clean blend option.

Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder - Bassy Muffy fuzz with quite a few tone options.

TheSyle Singularity Overdrive - They call it an overdrive but at high gain it can be a gravelly, coarse grained, bassy fuzz, amongst all of its tonal options. This thing is an unexpected monster.

Coopersonic Twin Tube Overdrive - Another box with great bass response that gets into definite fuzz territory at high gain. Really amplike.

OC alone think White Stripes.
You can blend the original and octave signal for the amount you like.
Adding the DB behind darkens both and thickens up every thing while adding more drive and grit if you want..

I’ve used the DB behind the TP, SM and DN with bass to cut the high end and boost the lows. It works very well.

I’ll play around with a guitar and the OC-3 and DB tomorrow and see if I can give a more definitive answer.

I have a D*A*M Ezekiel 23:19
Four levels of drive from mild to nuclear assault and a blend knob, get as much clean signal as you want.
It pretty much sucks for guitar on the highest setting -- no definition -- but has some really cool sounds in it in the lower ones, and I love the blend knob.
Why don't more guitar dirt pedals have a blend knob? Doesn't sound like anything else I own.
