High gain brootals pedlol on the cheap?
Not sure if this subject is like blasphemy around here, cause in a way the sort of pedal I'm thinking of buying is the exact opposite of most fuzz pedals. It's normally the last sort of dirt pedal I'd buy myself, but my lastest band, as well as my taste for somewhat more tight/modern tones has pushed me towards more metal oriented gear.
The band's not really going anywhere though, and I only spend serious money on fuzz ofcourse:)
So I wanna spend as little as possible. I only tried about 4 pedals so far, all from EHX, MXR, and Boss. Frankly, they didn't really impress me at all. And I'd also rather stay away from chinese behringer/biyang/mooer/etc crap, I've had a couple less-than-great experience with that category of super cheap effects brands.
A used Barber dirty bomb might be a possibility. I gets a ton of love online, though I'm not sure how much of that is just coming from Barber fan boys and boutique snobs:s
Anyone tried the Hardwire metal distortion (forget what it's called) or the Blackstar HT-2? Anything else I should check? I'd prefer something small and pedalboard friendly, and if at all possible it'd be great if I find something that's true bypass. Some sort of control over the eq would be nice as well, just one tone knobbie seems a bit too limiting for a pedal like that.
Cheers!

Look into your heart and you will know that this is the correct pedal.

The Hardwire has a great signal to noise ratio, but it's pretty bland. Too clean for my tastes.
Death Metal and Grunge are both nice and filthy.
I love the MXR Fullbore, in my setup it sounds absolutely massive.
AMT stuff...

Yep. If my elements ever breaks I'll use my second Elements. If that ever breaks I'd happily roll a digitech death metal.friendship wrote:Look into your heart and you will know that this is the correct pedal.

The guy from Pig Destroyer runs this straight into a power amp for his sound.

That's a really rapey band name.

Naming themselves "Cop Killer" would have prompted lawsuits

I want to hate my Digitech death metal, but I always come back to it. Delicious feedback squalls and retarded low end. It stacks pretty well too, I've had it after my algal bloom and before my LSTR with great results.
Also, it kills on bass. I use it quite a bit in my band.

Way Huge Fat Sandwich can get brootz and has lots of otherwise usable sounds, too. It can be had quite inexpensively.

Which Boss did you try, the Metal Zone?
Go find an old HM-2, that thing is fucking awesome.
Also, another one that doesn't get mentioned often, the Landmine LD-1 is batshit insane for brootz, it doesn't even have a distortion knob, it's just cranked all the time.

Landmine pedals are getting harder to find nowadays
