I reached my psychedelic pinnacle in 1979. I was 4yrs old when a large jawbreaker was lodged in my throat. Asphyxiation will send your ass spinning into another dimension. Here's a shout out to that random guy who ran up and held me upside down by the ankles and slapped the shit out of my back until it was dis-lodged.

No pedals included.

How so on the Zoom pedals and which?

I've thought a bit about trying the 50G/B and making crazy DSP chains, but I this feeling there's going to be a catch.

I'd Say as far as pushing the envelope but remaining accessible, Pigtronix is my goto company.... it used to be ehx, but they've been rehashing lately.

Psychedelic IS about pushing the boundaries with what you've got (good modern example is Tom Morello), but I don't think there's much that can compare to Sonc Crayon's Anti-Nautilus.

That being said, there's plenty of WTF to be had aside from sampling shenanigans. Psychedelic is reliant upon effects but OUGHT to transcend the need of "crazy, trippy" effects. It ought to be about a musician's approach.

I have a zoom ms-70cdr. Lots of good effects. Reverse delay>particle verb> duo trem> blackhole verb is awesome. Lots of spacey effects. Good sound quality. Just check out the specs on the zoom. Super cheap, worth every penny.

The single largest game-changing device I have ever purchased was the Roland GR-55.

Even if I never ran it through my existing wall of stuff, the ability to dynamically retune strings in the box in ways that are technically impossible, plus two editable, obscenely tweakable PCM synth voices plus modelling of the original guitar synth, electric sitar, and other electric guitars/basses/acoustic guitars, and ability to sync it all internally to LFOs in obscene ways literally redefines things I could never, ever dream of pulling off any other way.,

Half a VG-99, automatable effects, extensive choices in signal routing out of the box, and two decent sounding PCM synths, as well as typical guitar processing is nothing to sneeze at to say the least.

The big change for me with it in particular is everything just works - things track well, sound good, and then I can go to town from there.

It's a revolutionary toy that finally fulfills the promise of the original guitar synths in that it is not only an actual synth but a genuine instrument unlike anything else out there.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

I'm not sure I could pick a particular brand/maker. Maybe EQD and EHX in terms of the type of stuff they do and their sonic aesthetic.

I'd define it more by specific pedals and certain types of effects - and as others have said, how you use them.

If I had to pick a brand, I'd say Vox in c. 1967/68, given the various effects they had built into their guitars and amps (e.g. fuzz; repeat percussion; palm-operated wah; mid-range resonsance booster) and separately as pedals. And the wah pedal of course. and the Tonebenders. oh, and the mental guitar-organ guitar they made.

I can make my guitar sound like a sitar with a Vox Wah!?

Why did EHX ever bother designing Ravish, then?

That would be around the time of the height of popular/commercial psychedelia.

Or how about Univox/Shin-ei

They designed/made the 'Psychedelic Machine' - a univibe, tremolo and fy-6 fuzz all-in-one.

Oh man, You know, me and a bass /synth guy in my band just drooled over one of those on eBay a year or so ago. After all the money spent on modular synths and stuff we had absolutely no way to afford it but we sure wanted to come up with a (honorable and legal) way to get the money for that.
