I'm seeking flanger pedal recommendations, please. (Affordable ones only, so no Hartman or A/DA etc)

I have terrible problem finding flange. I often find them to be not sufficently musical and usable. I want something that can do subtle and tasteful. I think I'd probably only consider an analogue one.

The BF2 and HF2 are great. I'd definitely say the HF2 is more subtle, I would probably recommend that more if that's what you're going for. The sweep is higher and more distinct from the guitar signal so it doesn't really interfere with your playing as much. The BF2 i think excels with thick, over-the-top sweeps and wacky noises with the rate turned up. I sold my HF2 and kept the BF2 but I wasn't really going for a subtle sound, they're both super awesome anyway.

Of the others I've tried, I thought the TC Electronic Vortex sounded terrible so I can't suggest that. I like the Ibanez CF7 a lot but I wouldn't recommend it over the HF2/BF2 unless you can get one significantly cheaper.
I think you're right in looking for an analogue one, I normally prefer digital modulation effects but all my favourite flangers are analogue.

For subtle I think there's not much that goes above the EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress but due to EHX build quality it's not something I'd recommend, however Ian from Gigahearts FX (a forum regular also based in the UK) can build you a great sounding one in a much smaller box that is powered by 9V for I think about the same price so that's what I would recommend instead (I have one of these as well).
The BYOC Flanger might also be one worth looking into.

There is always the trusty electric mistress. Thats the only real flanger I have spent time with and I have built a clone. I do however have an Orbital Modulator though, which includes a bunch of different modulation effects which include chorus, phase and flange. It is a great little box that lets you have access to a few kinds of modulation if you want to play around. Cheap recommendation is always the boss flanger which you can find cheap on craigslist usually or in guitar center used section.

One I haven't gotten to play but I like the company's other pedals is the Mr. Black pedals. I have the supermoon and really like it. So check out their tunnel worm flange.

Guyatone FL-3 Micro series with the Resonance switch at 1 or 2. (Position 3 will still get you thick jet sweeps if you need those, too.) Simple, very good, and often ridiculously cheap used.

I just sold my BF-2. I gave the bass player in my old band my DOD FX747 and it was a pretty solid flange, it just sounded so killer in his feedback loop!

The best flanger I've tried (and the one I will one day buy) is the grey MXR 4-knobber. So many good sounds! The only problem is that it's 18v but I think it comes with a power supply?

I definitely prefer 4 knob flangers and the MXR is definitely one of the nicer sounding ones. 4-kobbers have more toanl options.

As a non-fan of almost all flangers, the Tunnelworm linked above sounds the best to me.

I'm not exactly sure what your budget is but don't necessarily rule out the A/DA if you really want it. I picked up a vintage 70s one for $150 a couple weeks ago, and I see them pop up for only a little more than that every once in a while. Might be able to haggle down to a good price like I did.

Electric Mistress is a fine Flanger, and makes a decent backup chorus. I personally like the TC Vortex because it has Stereo Ins and can do through-zero Flanging.

Yeah that tunnelworm sounds really good. I'd want to try it on my rig before buying, though.

I love my BF-2, but I'd also add the Source Audio Orbital to the others listed above for consideration.

flangers aren't supposed to be subtle. i concur with the 4-knob mxr that van halen used.
