Tremolo Tribulations

Post by chuckjaywalk »

So, I've got chorus figured out (CE-2) and delay dealt with (DM-2 and Belle Epoch). My compressor quest is complete (CS-1). All that remains is my need for a tremolo. I have tried the 3XFX Sidewinder, IdiotBox Mad Doctor, and a Tremulous Lune. None really did it for me. My point of reference would be something like Chris Isaak, I guess. I've got ~$150 in my PayPal and I'm open to suggestions.

Is that the first time someone on ILF evoked Chris Isaak?

Definitely Tremolessence, no question...
That tone control totally puts it in Chris Isaak or Nancy Sinatra mode...
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

TR2 as a cheap option. They're legit and it sounds like you're not after super crazy waveforms.

Yeah, I'm kind of a Boss guy. If it wasn't for the Belle Epoch and Boss' inability to make a fuzz that I like, I would have an all Boss board.

I tried a Stutterbox and it was cool, but not the kind of tremolo I need. I need more of a triangle or sine wave.

The Schaller is a great trem. I've got a Jimmy Behan Schaller trem clone that works a treat. Same controls as the Fredric one but I had Jimmy add a level knob as well (which works well enough that I can use it as a boost if I have to). Really simple, easy to dial in, no stuffing about with tap tempo and all that stuff. Always sounds great.
The other one I really like is the Demeter Tremulator.

The TR-2 is a no-brainer if you only need that sort of tremolo sound, I think they sound great. But if the versatility would be beneficial to you:
