I just wrote a whole thing comparing my Black Sovtek Muff, Standard SC, and 71, and I deleted it on accident. But basically:

Sovtek: The most low end, very boomy, unfocused. The tone knob sounds like you're smothering the guitar with a pillow as you roll it back. Subtle high end. When you crank the tone you lose that boomy high end. Great if you want to blend in or sound super low and doomy. Softest attack of the three.

Standard SC: More focused and tight low end tuned for the chugga chuggas. More presence and clarity. Unlike the sovtek muff you can keep the low end in tact when turning the tone knob up or help keep a bit of high end/midrange when rolling the tone back. Has a more punchy/present sound than the 71 and the Sovtek. Closer to a distortion than fuzz sometimes. Sharp attack, cuts through the mix.

71 SC: Softer attack than the SC. The texture is similar to the Sovtek but without the gobs of low frequencies that might cause you to blend in with the bass. More rich or lush than the standard, so you can tune it to be up front in the mix or hang out in the back. I don't know if its the fuzziness, or maybe a slight change in mid frequencies but the 71 seems to sustain a bit longer and creates lovely feedback a lot easier than the others.

Ultimately they are all big muffs, so they will overlap, but the Supercolliders give you more control over how the pedal interacts with your playing. The Standard being more "punchy and in your face" while the 71 is more "fuck so sexy I want it all over my face."

That was great man, thanks!

I pretty much stopped using my black Big Muff in my band cuz it made me disappear in the mix. The Super Colliders have been calling my name since they have mid controls.

71' purchased. Figured I'd jump on it while a brand new one was discounted. There's some real good sound clips out there that sold me on it, along with this thread. I'll say this though, it was a toss up between the SC and the 71'. This particular shoot out demo didn't have the gain on the 71' maxed out, but yet it hung right in with the SC. Just a lot more warmer, without the ice pick high's, just as gritty and defined.

Thanks for the info PP, super helpful summary.
The LAST thing I need is another Russian Muff, but at that price, I couldn't resist snagging a '71...can't wait to put it up against my "original" V2 Supercollider!
Special low-frequency version.

Decided to do a little different demo since these are the pedals that made it onto my main board. I start out with a quick comparison between the two Supercolliders, explain how I use them, show off the acid pig, and then demonstrate How I take advantage of the differences between the Supercolliders. More theory (lalz) than knob tweaking. Enjoy me being a goober.

Four weeks after my order being processed, I was elated to find a small postage box in the form of a Green 71' Super Collider. Hell yea!!!! Does anyone have any knowledge whether or not this this pedal work well with bass rigs, as well as guitar rigs?

My '71 showed up on Monday...and I haven't stopped grinning yet :!!!:
Great usable tones all over the place, and different enough than the standard...I haven't done a side-by-side, mostly because I couldn't stop playing it but initial impressions might be that the '71 is a bit better voiced for guitar.

I use my older standard SC on bass frequently, I would bet the '71 does the job almost just as well. It does seem to have a little less low-end boominess than the standard.
