Feedback pedal?

Post by Dexterecus »

I'm looking for a pedal that, when engaged, instantly creates loads of feedback and noise.
My band's been writing new songs and I need more noise. I'm currently using a passive bass through a Boss HM-2 (all knobs to 11) into a tube amp, but I hardly get any feedback at all.

Is there a pedal that I can add to increase the amount of violent squealing feedback?
You just need a passive bass, a tube amp, and a metric ton of marijuana and Sabbath worship.

The Boss DF2 (discontinued) can create a momentary, simulated feedback overtone. Behringer do a knockoff of it (model FD300). Boss have the newish Feedbacker/Booster - that can do something similar.

i have both the df-2 and the fb-2. they are very different--the df-2 gives a straight feedback of the distortion, while the fb-2 has a greater range and can be used as a boost. the fb-2 also can give a cocked wah effect and can swell into a feedback. it all depends on what you want to do--i use the fb-2 more. this video gives a good comparison.

Could put pedals in a feedback loop? Plenty available or easy to make yourself

Yep, I was thinking the same thing: noise = feedback loop...

If you want loads of feedback just stack two distortion pedals with the levels all the way up, it works for me and all those feedback pedals seem a bit unnatural and gimmicky to me.

I agree with that sentiment.

The feedback function on the DF-2 and the Behringer equivalent is very synthetic sounding. It's nicer on the Feedbacker/Booster. But if I stack an HM-2 - which the OP mentioned - into another high gain dirt pedal, I get huge sustain and easy feedback creating capabilities.

Skullservant has made a number of Madbean Cave Dweller delays with an excellent momentary oscillation feature. He even made one in a wah rocker for BigChiefBC where the treadle controlled the volume, so BCBC could really control the oscillations (they get really loud really fast otherwise). I've been seriously thinking of commissioning one of those housed in one of these: http://www.mammothelectronics.com/wah-p ... -s/158.htm

The DF-2 is a weird analog oscillator that doesn't sound anything like feedback, and doesn't sound very good either, IMO.

The FB-2 sounds much better and (because it's digital) it can be more flexible/intelligent/responsive. It's also a decent boost/light OD. I like it for what it is.

For what you want, I wouldn't recommend a DF-2 or FB-2. Both are cool pedals and both have their uses, but neither really create a massive amount of noise. For that I would recommend some sort of oscillating fuzz pedal (there are so many variations here, you really have to look around, but I use the devi ever Dream Mangler on chaos mode and it works really well) or some kind of oscillating delay. Or both.

Lots of ways to do it, just a matter of your preference (and budget) - feedback loop, clean boost, second dirt box, delay/fuzz/other with footswitchable oscillation, EHX Flanger HOAX,

I remember way back when getting tons of feedback with a big muff and ds 1 at bedroom levels.
