All I can say is, I never had a problem w/ AC (having had a reasonably good impression based on what I'd heard--I believe this WAS "Feel-era", btw), but then I heard MPP and thought it was terrible and overrated...
That's not to say people who disagree are Pitchfork zombies, but I still didn't like it, and I think their gushing over it is ridiculous!
Merriweather definitely did not do it for me, aside from Brothersport, although I feel robbed because it was drastically shorter/different from the version I first heard.
AND ANOTHER BONE I HAVE TO PICK WITH AC:
Why did Panda have to make "Walkabout"significantly less good?
so AC is a drug thing okay gotcha. it still sounds like some A & Rs idea of what Phish & They Might Me Giants might do in the studio if you asked them to make a experimental hippie record w/ some Boss samplers.

Apparently the two main songwriters in AC are major Dead-heads.
I'm not a big fan of music that can't be appreciated/understood on all levels of conciousness.

wait, was this ironic?
AC is not fucking w/ BMSR on NO LEVELS.
I meant ironic because BMSR is pretty hip in a Pitchfork sense, because you don't seem to like that site very much.
i never said i hated Pitchfork. i actually used to read it. i mean i still do. i just don't actively read it anymore. i think Pitchfork must have just recently jumped on the BMSR bandwagon cuz when i used to read it, i cannot recall Pitchfork either reviewing or hyping BSMR.
the Pitchfork hype vs pandering thing. i've gotten used to it. & i ignore it. it is what it is...
i also think it is really unfortunate that Wizard could live in Philly & be into AC when there are so many more awesome bands & groups in that city doing way more awesome challenging weirder music than AC. i think that is really sad actually.

more "you like a band, and so you are lame?"
okay back on topic: Animal Collective. i wonder what type of gear they use beside those Roland SP-404 samplers.

Mixers, Mics, Strat, I saw one of their guitarists with on of those old Harmony guitars thats is now the Dano Dead On 69, I've read about them using a Juno 60 or something.
I don't take animal collective to seriously. I just enjoy some of the music they record. this latest ep has been an enjoyable listen so far at work, I haven't sat down with it yet with a critics ear and I probably never will. It works great for me as backround noise. They arrange some fun sounds..
