Isn't the SHO horrendously easy to build? I remember hearing that it's made just of a couple of parts.
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

Check it out, $75 gets you a SHO that is substantially smaller than the original.

That doesn't sound right. :erm:

So this SHO clone.... I have one.... posted a thread about and stuff. And I have one more thing to add.

When I crank the boost and pedal going into it like Big muff->SHO.... it'll oscillate, even some gated fuzzes. fucking sweet.

Over at one of the premier DIY forums there is a huge thread about the SHO along with Pros and Cons, etc... and Vex actually became involved at one point, got nice and legal, but has since backed off because even he realized that the design is so simple anyone can do it (so long as you have the right parts - i.e. don't skimp by NOT using a reverse taper pot) and it's so versatile he incorporates it into almost all of his designs in some way (the Machine is pretty much three SHOs in a row)....

so long as the builder doesn't profit off of the design, it's okay to build them, especially if you are using someone else's PCB design (with permission of course)....

so if you plan on learning how to build, the SHO is the perfect first build, and a very cool simple circuit.....

but i'll still take a DE Karaoke Party over it anyday....

textbook circuit...

http://analogguru.an.ohost.de/
scroll down to SHO schematic.

anyone can profit from that or almost any other pedal design if they want to (and plenty do... ha!) just don't use the PCB artwork!
selling another's design with new artwork, layout, etc. comes down to morals, ethics or whatever you want to call it and can be hotly debated. look how many tubescreamer or big muff copies there are out there and you'll realize this isn't anything new and vex's designs aren't in a different category. he certainly gets a LOT of mileage out of the SHO if you check out more of his "designs"... :whateva:

Octane 3 is a superfuzz (with a knob instead of a switch for the mids)... :whateva:

I'm not going to lie and say I DON'T like his stuff. Cause the Machine is just too awesome, SHO sounds good, and Fuzz Factory has it's place. But being as simple as they are, he way to pricey.

I bought one from him a few months ago. Sounds good. My only complaint is that the LED quit working after about a day. I guess the first ones vex made didn't have an led at all.

I like his stuff, too. He has been an innovator in the past but the stuff costs way too much and Vex always comes across as a jerk when he posts on the boards.

I ordered one of these. I'm assuming it'll make me a better guitarist.

I also recently got one from a forumite, and it is a sweet pedal. It's making want to get a 2 in 1 clone... Might end up being a good project to try.

BTW a builder on HCFX, Soul Sonic, redesigned the SHO to not crackle. It's a MOSFET booster and for $80. Pretty solid price from a good builder. He's the dude that makes the 4 banger.
