Right. Maybe I misread. Sludge=/= post-metal. The guitar tones are pretty similar, but the aesthetic behind a band like Crowbar and a band like Neurosis is very different. Generally speaking, Crowbar, EHG, etc. and the rest of the NOLA bands are what I consider sludge -- while some of the Bay Area bands like Neurosis seem to be more tied in to crust and hardcore bands like Amebix. Both genres are basically playing what is essentially slowed down Hardcore, but the southern influences and humid abrasiveness that most 'real' sludge has seem to be a uniquely Southern thing. On the flip side, bands like Isis and Neurosis are much 'colder' sounding. (You could do a whole dissectional on Loud and Slow Music by region over the last 30 years, and I think it would be really illuminating, at least as far as the US continent is concerned)

Related -- I just read another feature about VT's opiate problem because, you know, you've got to get at least one a month -- and there's definitely that same sort of "my god there's nothing to do" mentality that takes over any time you live in a rural community.

I've listened to it three times now, and I just can't make myself get excited about it. Just doesn't push the right buttons for me musically. Much more into the Thou and Rwake that I downloaded over the weekend.spawnofthesith wrote:Holy fuck balls. I just finished listening to the new Conan album. Voices of Omens. I've listened to Rest a bunch of times on Bandcamp and know I like it, but you guys were talking up VoO so strongly I figured I'd go with that. I'm sure I'll be picking up a copy of Rest sometime soon as well.D.o.S. wrote:Which Rwake did you get?

Ah really? It's probably too early to say, but it might be my favorite Conan release. Coincidentally, I just bought the new Thou also, I haven't listened to it yet though. I'm looking forward to it definitely. Does Rwake have a new album, or did you get an older release?celticelk wrote:I've listened to it three times now, and I just can't make myself get excited about it. That Matamp is gorgeous. As is the V2. Very good shit, y'all. Such cool shit.
So after being told yesterday that I could return my apartment tonight, manager tells me they need two more days on repairs. That'll bring it to six days, total. I'm pissed.
I brought my acoustic, but goddamn. I'm dying without my rig. I'm longing for dem fuzztones.

Speaking of newer releases, this fucking slays.
I've been digging the shit out of both new Thou and Conan. This is the first thou release I've actually sat down and listened to and I love it. I saw video of them playing and it makes me wish I never got rid of my 5150.

All this great new shit everyone's getting....nice.
Got the Hyperfuzz today.
Gonna take me a while to make it play nice with this amp, but I've only had 5-10 minutes with it.
Stacked it up with the BF.....fuck yeah, now we're talking. Looking forward to various combinations of that shit.
