Fuzz pedal recommendations for 60s garage/psych rock

Has anyone had direct experience to compare a vintage Jordon Bosstone to the Voodoo Lab Superfuzz?

I don't know, I only know the Voodoo Lab Superfuzz but I thought that one sucked (probably the worst fuzz I ever played), I always thought all Superfuzz pedals were shit because of it but it turns out it's a completely different circuit, I can't see it comparing to a real Bosstone to be honest, all of those nasty gainy gated sounds weren't there in the Voodoo Lab from my memory.
Just my opinion though and it might be a bit dated as it has been a long long time since I played it.

Voodoo Labs also made a Boss Tone, which may be better to compare. Their Super Fuzz does expand on that though.
Really wish they wouldn't/couldn't have used the SF moniker for that

The VL superfuzz is the bosstone circuit and not a superfuzz circuit. I think there was some trademark legal issue or something as to why they changed the name.

I've got two Boss Tone clones, and love them, but neither get gated or trashy. But they're one of my favourite fuzzes.

See, I might be wrong about it then but I associate the horn kind of sounds with that stuff so probably I'm just describing it wrong, it's been a long long time since I played one also, the Anarchy Audio Bosstone inspired fuzz seems really cool though, I'm curious about your custom as well.

The attack is pretty woody, it's a great sound, but then after that it's pretty smooth, even on lower gain. Lots of sustain and a little bit honky. So it is quite hornlike, but not trashy like say a velcroar.

Yea, that's what I was saying. The Boss Tone labeled one would be better to compare to an original than the Super Fuzz labeled one, as the SF one has some mods.
They got in trouble for using one companies name, so they decide to take yet another companies name, from a totally different circuit. Perhaps a marketing strategy?

Yeah I'd go with a Tone Bender, Fuzz Face, or Maestro Fuzz tone. The best way to get 60s fuzz tones is to use what they had in the 60s.

I think it depends what you put into them that make them trashy. I use my 71 ibanez pre lawsuit tele. Very high impedance pickup. Sounds very trashy. When I run my squire H/H vintage modified jag into it I get a more cleaned up very sustained fuzz sound rich in harmonics. Haven't tried my p90 equipped maton mastersound yet. Will try it in the morning and update this post with the results. They are an awesome all round fuzz, but they don't do gated sounds. None that I've found yet. I only just built it a week ago though.
