Fuzz pedal recommendations for 60s garage/psych rock

Post by Ro_S »

Please recommend modern fuzz pedals that are good for mid- and late-1960s garage rock and psychedelic rock fuzz tones.

Catalinbread's Merkin seems a very good option.

What else though?

thanks

I'm a big fan of the Ghost Effects Pep Box.

Also, there're many Basic Audio pedals that can do those kinds of tones. I love his take on the Os Mutantes fuzz, the Fuzz Mutant.

What Chank said. LOVE the Pep box, LOVE the Fuzz Mutant/Os Mutantes (really, really versatile and underrated circuit). But for the totally primitive, no sustain shit you need an FZ-1 - and the EHX Satisfaction would do the job at a nice price. The new Zvex Fuzzolo has a nice gate on it, too, and is also friendly on the wallet. Definitely worth giving it a try.
I'm also a big fan of the Fuzzrite (for that "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" sound) and the Sam Ash Fuzzstainer. Really want one of those one of these days.

Listen to this guy. I will add the Jordan Bosstone and Super Fuzz as suggestions.

Basically get something splatty and trebly and gross and painful. That was kind of the ethos at the time.

Was going to suggest the jordan bosstone but someone beat me to it. I just built a clone of one. They sound awesomely trashy. It is also the fuzz Norman Greenbaum had built into his tele for spirit in the sky. 60s garage/psych holy grail fuzz tone in my opinion.

You could also get a Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz. Despite the name it's a Bosstone clone with a bass and midrange knob.

Jordans are awesome. They turn up on the DAM forum pretty regularly and usually aren't that expensive. I got one for $125 or something a few years ago. They're around. Jerms Fuzzrites are things of beauty too. And the Glenn Wyllie Fuzzmite too if you can find one.
