Zoom G5 (my impressions)

Post by Dramatis Persona »

Hello guys!
I sold all of my pedals and my beloved JC-120 because I need money for going to live in another country with my girlfriend after we graduate.
So actually I'm without amp and pedals... the only pros is that I feel free
I'm using my ipad for playing guitar, the sounds are really good, but I think I'm becoming deaf and I have many digital clipping\distortion problems. I've discoverd the ZOOM G5 that has many cool effects, like dirty gate, bit crusher and sample reduction, vibrato, granular delay, reverse delay, early reflection reverb and some cool amp and effect emulation.
Do you tried this machine? I need this shit for experimental ambient shoegaze shitty music, some people are really happy with the G3, G5 is the next step and I think the sound is the same but with more features!

Thank you!

My bandmate (and fellow forumite) Decibill just bought a G5, and I was downright FLABBERGASTED by the effects. Some amazing sounds in there, and the functions are really, really well thought out, like the dedicated global boost switch. And some of those effects are so nutty, it's great. I know I've seen people ask here specifically for some of these things... the granular delay, for example - someone was asking in a "why don't they build this thread" about a delay that would repeat the last note played at the exact same volume until another note is played. Well, the G5 can do that (and obviously much more).

I don't usually rave about multi fx, but that thing is beastly!

Are they the same effects as the MS50?

I've changed idea... No modulation on tape and analog delay -.-
No mod verb too -.-
-.-

PS: the sound engine is the same of the G3, MS50,60,70 and 100...

Fuck, a tape delay without a wow n flutter is like... mmm, I don't have words to describe something more useless than a tape (and analog too) delay without modulation -.-

I don't know what it is exactly but there's something about the way all the ZOOM stuff looks that I can't get over. I keep hearing really good stuff about the effects but then when I see the pedals it's hard to take them seriously. Silly, I know.

Stupid democracy, the world could be a better place if the "ancient regime" still exists! Long live Sun King!

Maybe I will give a try in the next future to the G5, it has some digital effects that are really cool, but before I want to taste the limit of my ipad!

So, to follow up on Jrmy's post, I just got the G5. I already have the G3 and love it, but man that G5 takes it to the next level. The four dedicated screens are a god send, but you can run nine FX simultaneous. The pedal control is insane.....and it sounds FRIGGIN GREAT. I bought initially just to do modulation weirdness, but it excels at much more than that.

How is the sound quality of the dirt pedals and the modelling amps? Like I wrote above, I'm without everything, I have only my guitar!

Just bought the G5 yesterday for a cheap price (and I bought again my beloved JC 120 from the guy who I sold it too).
This thing sounds fantastic for the price! The tube is the icing on the cake, it can warm enough your sound and make it less digital sounding! I should tweak some "pedals" a little more, for example hi gain stompboxes that sound a little bit weak, but overdrive and crunch tones are definitely great! Cool effects are the dirty gate, the exciter, the bit crusher, autoswell, reverse delay, granular delay, all the filters, vibrato and the pitch shifter and more! This thing I thnk can be the "cheap shoegaze in a box". The next step will be the MS70 CDR.

The Big muff on the g3 Sounds very good to me. And the looper is also very nice.

Seriusly? I didn't like the big muff emulation, too trebly than a real one, but I found the Squak or RAT really cool!
