I vote Lofi junky and polytope. The cosmi is great but I think the warped vinyl seems cooler if you're gonna go expensive. I found the cosmi to be dreamy but not really fat at most settings.

I think Tris idea with The warped vinyl is pretty good. Very fat sounding but it can be subtle or intense.
Lo-Fi junky was also my other idea.
Of you don't want Modulation try a pitch shifter with a minimal detune. Could be The sound you looking for without (stupid) lfo.

Yep, mentioned the detune.

+/-5 cents stereo panned gets huge fast without being swirly.

Love my rack toys for that!

What I'm actually using now (and what inspired this thread) is a Rainbow Machine set like that.

Mid-Fi Deluxe Pitch Pirate?

I always wanted to try one of these.

You could probably set some sort of filter up for some PHAT stuff. Mid freqs but not huge peaks?

Yeah, I usually have the PDF-1 in the chain as well. It helps, but can't where I want on its own. I'll try a stronger filter.

The right reverb/delay/distortion combination, and pretty much any chorus would get there I'd think.

I'm hearing mostly the interplay of the verb/od/delay, with chorus as the finishing touch.

But there's a *lot* of processing going on. I'd want high-end multi as the starting point to do in the wild on a "budget" - and a guitar with a piezo blend and/or phase switching too.

YT may be complicating it though as well, would need a higher quality source materal. The right panned electric lead section in the second minute might point where to go as well, the gain staging sounds similar without all the delay/verb/modulation.

Yeah, I do hear that the verb is doing a lot, but the modulation itself doesn't really sound like a chorus to me

I reckon it needs to be analogue - either tube, optical or bbd chips.

Suggestions:

- a univibe-type effect for that lovely 'chewy' thing (e.g. Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe)

- an old-school type phaser, such as a 70s Small Stone, a Russian (black) Small Stone, or a Visual Sound Oil Can.

- a Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus (not a typical sounding chorus! has phaser like qualities)

- Biyang CH8 Chorus (a Boss CE-2 clone but with a tone knob)

- an optical tremolo (e.g. Voodoo Lab Tremolo)

- a tube tremolo (e.g. Guyatone Flip)

- a tremolo with a tone knob (e.g. Nobels TR-X Ttremolo, SolidGold Stutterbox)

similar vibrato... what can I say - I'm a huge sucker for anything Steven Wilson does... my biggest idol
Anything that can get me close to those smooth tones? Maybe the little Malekko vibrato? BBE Mind Bender?

I know he uses TC Electronics Shaker live - any experience with that, guys?

Given the BBE and the Malekko aren't going to be significantly cheaper, might as well start where the man does if that's what you're gunning for.
