I like the TAFM and Frazz on bass for sure. However, while it's not technically a fuzz, the Rat Tail with 2nd Distortion mod is hard to beat for me. The diode selector (Si/No Diodes/LED) offers tons of variety, HUGE RANGE of tones from low gain to moderate vintage-style gain to punchy raw gain to thick crunch to searing high gain etc etc. The lo/hi clipping controls rule too, lets you dial the clipping in separately and fine tune to bass or guitar. The 2nd distortion mod is nice just for the sake of having dual gain settings to toggle between.
Seriously, hard to make a Rat Tail sound bad in any setting unless you turn the tone knob to extreme mudsville.

I spent an entire day of my life (no exaggeration) deciding if my Rat King or the Supa Chan was going to be the pedal I used as my main. I love it, it's my go to for bass 100% of the time, but the Supa Chan just works with the lower output pick ups I've been running and allows me to actually get a hair more bass and girth than my Rat King.Holy Schnikes wrote:I like the TAFM and Frazz on bass for sure. Malekko's Diabolik is pretty freaking bassy, overall. It has the character of the B:Assmaster, but the tone is darker on both the clean and fuzz sides of the circuit.

You want a Fuzz Pedal that has large coupling capacitors, really.

Re: Bassy fuzz suggestions?
I have a SSStampede and I'm very happy with it on bass. I originally thought it wasn't bassy enough, but after messing with it more, I realize that the octave up was throwing me off a bit. Mine has a pregain control that helps control the character of the fuzz a bit. At full gain it gets a little squishy but turn the gain down a bit, and its aggressive, defined, and bassy while retaining those octave undertones. Of course, your prototype may be different.

Re: Bassy fuzz suggestions?
It's supposed to have pre gain and post gain controls so it might work in the same way? I'll probably have to pair it back since i'm going to be stacking into it.neonblack wrote:I have a SSStampede and I'm very happy with it on bass. Re: Bassy fuzz suggestions?
I run it last in my chain, after my Mini and Diabolik. The Mini doesn't have much of an effect. Maybe a little "sharper" sound. Its just convenient that it still sound good so I don't have to switch the Mini off. After the Diabolik, it gets super noisy and scooped. Guitar territory. Then I can use the Mini to fatten it back up. I mostly use the three together for big sustained chords on bass. Fun stuff.

Re: Bassy fuzz suggestions?
Resurrecting this thread to say I finally got to try out my SSStampede last night and I loved it. I know messing with the clipping knobs on the side is going to take a little time to dial it in just right but all in all this is maybe as close to what I wanted existing in the real world. I'm using this thread as a reference for fuzz for my band's bassist and would like to thank you guys again for helping me avoid an unnecessary round of gear flipping and frustration.

I'm having a blast using the LSTR fuzz on both bass and baritone. The mid range knob really helps bass blast through the mix.

Re: Bassy fuzz suggestions?
I loooove the LSTR on bass as a sort of fuzzy overdrive. The high gain settings don't do it for me as much though.
