Pedal powering question

Post by Blizzardo »

If a pedal has the option of 9v or 18v and I use a 1 spot, will it draw 18v or 9v?

I believe the 1-Spot provides 9V power only.

Thanks, wasn't sure since it can power multiple pedals.

Powering more than one pedal doesn't require more voltage, it requires more current! A onespot (or other power supply) puts out 9V to every pedal no matter how many pedals you connect, and each of those draws some of the available current. Hope that helps, knowing a little bit of electricity can be very useful as a musician. :thumb:

^ Exactly. :thumb:

You'll need a separate 18V wall wart or an isolated supply (PP2+, CIOKS, etc) to provide 18V of power. If the isolated supply doesn't have 18V outs it can be easily achieved using a voltage doubler cable that bridges two 9V outs into a single 18V.

Excellent, thanks guys. I've got a T Rex Chameleon on it's way, but was hoping to get the 18v from the 1spot until then. The more you know!

What about adding one of those diago 18v adaptor cables, would that not work?

If he has a Chameleon coming that's pointless.
