Recommend your favorite tap tempo pedals

The DMMTT550 has tap tempo in and it's pretty great.

Yeah the DMMTT is pretty cool but it has the same price problem as the Panther - if I was going to spend that much on a delay I should probably just get a Timeline.

I beg to differ, I already had a Timeline, bought the DMM550TT to accommodate it and guess which delay I sold since.

It's really apples and oranges, the Timeline can kinda do what the DMM550TT can but not completely:
The momentary footswitchable feedback is not adjustable on the Timeline and ramps down pretty quickly, on the DMM550TT it ramps down in a much more musical way in my opinion and the level of feedback is even adjustable so you can set it for infinite delay carpet type sounds as well as runaway oscillation, a great feature that frees up the expression input for other things or frees up the need to use an expression pedal at all depending on the way you intend to use the DMM550TT.
The sound of the DMM550TT is much more flexible, it can be at the same time brighter and more behind in the mix than the Timeline as it reacts much more to your playing (staccato - legato), this way you can use just one setting for thickening up leads as well as rhythmic delays, on the Timeline you need different mix / feedback settings for everything you want to do in my experience which involves much more footswitching of banks etc.
The modulation on the DMM550TT is much better, there's just no comparison, the modulation on the Timeline sounds like a boring and non flexible digital chorus on top of the delays whereas the modulation on the DMM550TT is very lush sounding, plus you can tweak it for more of a chorus or a vibrato sound on the repeats which the Timeline doesn't seem to do that well because in my opinion it gets too seasick or just not very nice sounding on higher depth and speed settings.
The DMM550TT can also do lofi delay type sounds if you overclock it by tapping in a slow rhythm with the tap footswitch, it sounds pretty cool, then there's the tap divide sequence mode which sounds crazier than just about everything the Timeline does.

So in the end they're both quite different beasts really, the Timeline is great for ambient stuff and if you want different type of delays for that usage but I find it can be quite challenging and not as natural as the DMM550TT to also set it up right as a rhythmic delay.
By the way, if you're in the market for a feature loaded delay the first one I'd look into is the Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe, only after that I'd be looking into the Timeline but that's just my 2 cents.

Don't forget the panther is analog, had an f/x loop, assignable expression pedal control to any knob on the fly, tap in/out to slave another tap device......and is now available in the smaller less costly cub with all the same features.

OK now you've caught my interest. I'm not really looking for a feature rich delay, my main requirements are just 'sounds really good' and 'tap tempo'.

But I was already planning on getting the Fairfield analog delay, even without tap tempo... choices...

The panther doesn't have momentary feedback, so I doubt the cub has it. They really streamlined the cub, you would need to use y cables for f/x loop etc, to make it cheaper I guess. I've only talked with one cub owner, Nora billy and she was having issues with self oscillation clicking noises and couldn't get a straight answer about it, so she returned and went elsewhere. But the panther is incredibly powerful and sounds sooooo damn good I can get it to nail my blue face, and vintage dmm with ease thanks to its modulation.

The DMMTT550 can be had for about $300 used. I managed to snag mine for $320 new.

Nova Repeater. You can find it for under $100 and it's got more settings than Cher's robotic shell.

*sidebar: I believe in having 2 delays - one clean for precise repeats (digital with tap) and one not so clean for modulation and face fuckery (analogue gooeyness)
