Also it's worth remembering that you're using heavy strings to make up for lack of tension when tuning down so the final tension shouldn't be much off standard size strings in E standard. Unless of course you're using 11-70 in E but that'd be ridiculous and you'd be posting in the jazz room not the doom room...

I played a friend's guitar a few weeks ago. It WAS 11-70 in E
He said the neck felt like it was bowing. I said 'uh, I wonder why?'

There had to be someone...

Re carpeted cabs and cats, yes I've been there. Lent my mate/abondoned an amp in his house for a few months and one his cats got very attached to it. So much hair still on it. :hobbes: It was one of these Trace practice amps that we know makes the perfect cat scratching and chilling spot.

I just read this the other day. It looks (and reads) like marketing, but there is some good info and pictures in there.

Long story short, it seems that Gibsons, particularly SGs, crack a lot. Good fixes leave you with a better guitar. :thumb:

Yeah the padre's SG cracked at the neck for literally no reason at all - string tension. Got it repaired and it's definitely stronger than it was before.

Sometimes guitars with broken off headstocks come back stronger than before.

Sometimes the repaired instruments sound even better!
If the guitar's feel, sound and/or history has some major sentimental value then it's worth getting fixed IMO.

I will be picking up my own pro repaired-headstock guitar any day now; a '63 Epi Casino.
I never heard it pre-break, but post-repair the thing sounds incredible even before plugging it in.
The savings from it being "damaged" are also the difference maker that allowed me to (sorta) afford it...very beneficial if you're in the market as a buyer. As an owner, whether or not one is looking to sell gear; shit sucks when anything breaks.

I like cats but sometimes they're just out to cause trouble. In my current building I cant have one here, but either way my guitar will be kept in its case and away from where it can tip over or is likely to be disturbed or damaged.
