Sparkle Guitar.

okay. so i was thumbing thru the Sweetwater catalog today & i came across J Mascis Purple Sparkle Jazzmaster & i decided i (eventually) want a sparkly guitar. I basically want to get a Jagmaster & paint it a silver sparkle.

my question is, does getting a guitar painted have to be expensive. i really don't want the paint job to cost more than the guitar. ideally i'd want to pay like $100 or something & have someone paint it. just looking online it like it cost at least $300 or something to have a guitar painted & think that's retarded. also. i would like to have this locally done. or at least somewhere in the Southeast.

so what are my (cheap) options.

I suggest go for danos. ~Cheap and silvery sparkles without having to pay someone else. They sound sparkly too, sometimes annoyingly so.

yeah but they aren't short-scale. but that's what i would be aiming for yeah. i want to get a reissue one & paint it sparkle silver & change the pickguard.

i actually don't buy Dano products anymore, so that is not an option.

is it going to be a pain or really expensive to have a guitar painted. i mean its not a "custom" paint job i want. i just want the silver sparkle. otherwise, i'd just get the Jagmaster & leave it unpainted.

see that is thing. like you just said. it is not easy to do "properly." i would just rather pay some dude & have it done right. i just don't want to pay an arm & a leg.

okay i give up for now but when/if i get the Jagmaster i guess i will try to find the 'final solution.'

It will depend on the sparkle.
Do you want the “I just dumped a pound of glitter on my guitar” or a smooth deep silver flake.

For the latter you can do it yourself with a bit of practice.
All you’ll need is a refinish spray gun, compressor, some clear and these.

The crystal adds more sparkle has a nice visual effect.

Clear is easy, Advanced Auto has quarts of Duplicolor clear acrylic lacquer, and clear coat.
It dries in 5-15 minutes (weather/temp) so you don’t need days between coats.
Patience and layers of light coats give the best results.

I found that cutting 50% with acetone resulted in the most even finish.

Also measuring, for best clean up and no waste, I use a $1.00 store turkey baster and injector to measure out the lacquer and acetone. I only mix enough for the gun or airbrush container.
Also using a craft stick (popsicle stick) just a bit of the pigment, ¼” or so, mixes enough an airbrush and 3 or 4 for a detail gun gives a nice finish. . More gives a deeper, denser finish.

Of course you could add a little holographic silver coat just for fun.

is that possible. a shortscaleneck would fit on a 25" Jagmaster. also. how much would getting a Jagmaster from that era actually cost.

thank you for your advice. it makes attempting to paint a guitar seem less "prohibitive."

IDK. maybe i should have worded this thread "Getting a Fender Jagmaster Painted Silver Sparkle" or something. i'd love to HAVE Gretsch. i really would. but i really want a Shortscale Scale Fender Jagmaster. it is something that i am obsessing over. even if it means selling ass or bumping off a convenience store to have the funds to obtain it. getting the comestic mods would just seem like ICING ON THE MOTHERFUCKING CAKE.
