Still $400 or less on TalkBass.
Like most things you can blame stoner rock and ebay for the price jump.

Re: Random t40 questions
straya prices are whack. last T40 i saw went for 700. that seems about the 'market price'. same for T60's.
almost as much as it would cost to buy one from the US and ship it over here, if not more.. it's just cos they're so hard to find and demand is increasing, it's happening with a lot of gear.

Re: Random t40 questions
I've also noticed a steady price increase over the last few years, to the point that it defeats their purpose. I'm sure they're still good basses (I've never played on one), but they were supposed to be good and cheap. People only hear "good" and decided they must have one at all costs, thus raising the prices, thus leading away from the quality that made them so well liked. That and the fact that they can be used as a boat anchor if needed.
I've talked to the bass player for Maps and Atlases a couple of times at shows, and he mentioned that he wanted one. Last time I saw them, he was playing on a P-bass, and I asked him why not just get a T-40, to which he responded that the price is too high and he would only want one if he could get it really cheap. I don't blame him. Again, not to say they might not be worth the price, but to have a solid bass (or guitar) that you also got for $250 is an awesome feeling to have

Yeah, they have jumped a lot. I bought mine for $250 with case, strap, extra strings and a wall hanger mount. That was only 3 years ago too.

Re: Random t40 questions
Got mine for $200 shipped with case in March 2012 from Talkbass. It's a great bass that plays way better than a $200 instrument should, but once you get up to the $4-500 some people are asking there are a lot of really solid options out there sound/play great and also don't weigh a ton. Went to a swap meet thing last fall and just barely managed to hold back the laughter when this dude told me he was asking $500 for his T-60.

I think words gotten around that they're "rare" and in "demand". Probably a mix of total ignorance and people chancing their arm.

Re: Random t40 questions
I love my T-60. I paid $70.00 for it in the parking lot of a Mars Music where I worked at the time in 1999 and it is one of my greatest loves.
I want a T-40 too but WTF? 700 clams? I'm not sure any guitar is ever worth that price honestly. I like to rock on the cheepz.

Re: Random t40 questions
And by the way T-60s heavily populate the pawn shops down here in NC for barely a hundred. Maybe I should start scooping them up.

Re: Random t40 questions
Yeah it's gotten ridic the last couple years. I bought a T-40 in great shape back in 2008 for 200 bucks shipped, including a HSC. Now I see them go for close to 500 on eBay and I just shake my head.
The main reason I got it in my head to get one back in the day is because they were one of the few basses that could cop the Ric 4001/4003 sound somewhat. And it did, kinda. But for 500? No thanks.

T40s are awesome. I loved mine. Only sold it cause I liked my other basses more. If the T40 had a low B I would still have one hehe. That front pickup is so fckin fat!
