I buy CDs and rip them in 320kbps VBR. Good enough for me.

I do CBR, but otherwise, agreed. VBR can get wonky.

Yeah, they even made it so it would roughly the same amount of music as back then. By my figuring you'll be able to fit between 100-150 songs on this if you actually use their standard for FLAC files.
• CD lossless quality recordings: 1411 kbps (44.1 kHz/16 bit) FLAC files
• High-resolution recordings: 2304 kbps (48 kHz/24 bit) FLAC files
• Higher-resolution recordings: 4608 kbps (96 kHz/24 bit) FLAC files
• Ultra-high resolution recordings: 9216 kbps (192 kHz/24 bit) FLAC files
• 64GB of internal memory and a removable 64GB microSD card included (128GB total)

Finally, LP's can go away for good. Something to rival their quality. :snax:

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but this is a good link to spread around.

Yeah I'm really excited to see what Dave (that's what us DMB heads call him for short) picked to have us hear it exactly as he intended. I hope he includes Ants Marching, I hear there's a lot of nuance and detail to that song that's lost because of poor audio quality.

As a person who can hear dog whistles and other supersonic fequencies, I disagree with his arguments about our ability to perceive the visual and audible spectrums. But his overall point is correct. It has gotten to a point where it's a gimmick and 90% of the people who buy it literally won't be able to hear the difference. :idk:

A good friend of mine is a Dave fan. We have a lot of fun with that one.

The only thing good about this in practice after a bit of thinking is they're getting behind FLACs, which have no copy protection.

For once it's a "new" format being promoted without being shackled to bullshit restrictions.
