This…i put everything to the front of the amp…I've had one amp with effects loop, and never got the big deal about them.

i thought it was a old Phase 90 too…based on some pics i saw. But like you say he must have a few different ones. I've been thinking about the EVH Phase 90…seems like a good pedal and am tempted to buy one as I only use my Sibling for Vibe tones.

Misty Cave sounds like shit before dirt, phaser/flanger is way better before dirt, any modulation can be much more prominent before dirt. I'm using the amp gain, boosting with a BAT Rev.

Most effects just get overpowered or sloppy. After using the loop in my OR-15, I can say there is quite a big improvement when you have an effects loop

I've had several amps with effects loops - both of my current amps have them, but I've never used them either. I kinda want to get one of those shit hot amptop rangemasters that Skully builds and run it into the loop on my Ampeg to pretty up mah clean toanz, but I have no idea if that's a terrible idea or not.

And another thing - what kind of flanger is all over the Uncle Acid albums? I need some flange in my life again.

If I'm using amp dirt I can see the need for an effects loop. My Timefactor sounds best when in the loop if I'm using my dirty channel. If you have a dual rig you could run all of the effects in the other amp and keep the Hovercraft dry. I've done that before and it worked out great.

the one time that i talked to mike about pedals and gear he had a whirlwind orange box on his board and he said that it/phase 90 was the one thing on his board that didn't change and that it had always held it's place. that would make me believe that it's very likely that that was what he used on catharsis. don't know for sure though.

this thread made me accidentally buy a phase 90 today.

i had gotten fucked on some guitar center shit so i sent a nasty letter via their website.
got a call from the manager today and he swapped out my defective product (it had the stupid repair warranty not the replacement warranty) and there was an $28 balance that he wanted me to put towards buying the warranty again -- but the phase 90 was on sale for $68 and that meant that i had some extra cash.
phasing into the new millennium, you guys.

Yeah I'm slowly building towards one. I've got an ABY box from T1M and some fuzzes but just running them direct for now. No funds to get another amp/cab until after I graduate and find a job this summer. But I do really want to keep the Andromeda because it sounds fucking great.

Now I just have to figure out what kind of amp I want to complement it and start selling stuff/saving

Weird, I had a newer Phase 90 a while back and it didn't sound as good as the Yob album. Something about the sweep on the recording, I dunno. It's almost univibe-ish in a way or the sweep is offset or something. My phase 90 sounded a little sterile in comparison. I did have a BYOC Phase 45 though that I could make the sweep uneven via trimpot that made it sound awesome. It was just a tad too subtle for me though. I wonder if the Phase 90 has an adjustable trimpot like that. I never looked inside mine.

This is so good. I've been listening to them ever since you posted them in that other thread.

Brought the 5150 cab home that I bought off my buddy for $150 and I like my Soldano better through it that I do my Emperors. So much more low end with them, but I don't know how well it will sound with the band though. I've got two 5150s and two Emperors now so I guess this means that I need to buy aother head and run dual full stacks right?

Yeah, I really liked the Orange. Great tone and all but I have a few things coming up that I can really use the money for. As much as I want that Matamp that is up the road from me I need to put that cash towards other things. I need to put together a new comp for recording, get a new axle and tires for my trailer, and put the rest of the cash (what little is left over) towards paying off some upcoming medical bills. Haven't really spoken about it much but I'm having wrist surgery in April because my carpal tunnel has gotten so bad. I'll be out of commission for at least 2 weeks and possibly up to a month. Fucking sucks a fat dick. Kinda ironic though, being that I'm in a band called Dead Hand.

For modulation and time based effects like verb / delay that you don't want effected byt he amp EQ. IMO verb and delay sound more real and full in an effects loop than before an amp. I run my amp really dark so delay trail clarity and overall verb clarity get heavily effected in a negative way. And if you run amp dirt then its pretty much a necessity for delays and verb unless your the type that would run them predirt on your board to begin with.
