Yeah they have really lost me. I'm here because it was in route. Now I "know" and I'll probably never see them again. They are playing their last album straight through, which I did not enjoy. I mean they are great musicians but..... they've lost me. There are more people under 21 here then over but that may be a symptom of the town I'm in. Who knows.

And this is probably more a knock on Kansas then the band but there is absolutely no weed being smoked right now. Mortal sin.

BTBAM I never really jelled with. I like a few of their songs but I always got the spastic feeling from them where they never knew what they wanted so they put everything in at once. Good skill but their songwriting never interested me.

Yay Russian Circles in SF.

Helms Alee was excellent and heavier than I anticipated.

Nice man, they can do heavy for sure. Pro tip, Stand in front of Dana's amp for max chest crushing holy shit factor. There should be a slave of the guitar rig right next to it so you hear everything. (except maybe the vocs which are good) WARNING this is definitely a hearing damage zone but it's awesome.

Bassman cab is being sent to the wrong place by the courier

No one will take responsibility

No idea when or if I'll ever get the cab back or a refund because everyone is passing the buck

All I can do is track it as it goes to the wrong place

You cannot comprehend my rage, my pure blistering rage

I feel your pain man, I'm still trying to get my money back from that Guitar Center Model T fiasco over a month ago.

Any ATL folks going to see Shroud Eater at 529 tonight? If so hit me up. I'll be the ugly dude in a Pig Destroyer hoodie with a hot ass woman standing with me.

Hell yeah I wanna! I'm hoping that you guys and Shroud Eater aren't gonna be on stage at the same time so I'll be able to catch you both.

THANK YOU! This band has nothing to do with black metal. They sound closer to Envy or City of Caterpillar. While I enjoy both of those bands, Deafheaven does not resonate with me at all.

That really sucks dude. Where is the cab being delivered? Anywhere close to you that you can go get it? And if it is still in transit then why can't the carrier reroute it?

I like Roads to Judah, but Sunbather kinda sucks. They did sound great when I saw them but I'm not really big on the singer's stage presence. Seems a bit silly to me.

I know I'm not describing their instrumental sound correctly because I don't listen to that specific type of music, but hope that broad label conveys it well enough. I actually liked the singer. His vocals and his stage presence. But, their sound doesn't ring true to me.

I know I've shown my snobbish tastes lately and I didn't necessarily mean to do that. I've been making a concerted effort to expand my musical palette lately. But who knows.

Overall the show lat night was eh which I didn't expect going into it. It happens.

On another note, I'd be livid about the cab situation. I'd be talking to nothing but managers on all sides. Why can't they just reroute it? I'd be working toward that for sure. (I'm sure you are) good luck!!!

I have much to comment on...

I may be in the minority here, but I think Deafheaven is great. The assessment that they're more along the Envy/City of Caterpillar line sort of nails it on the head. They're like a 'blackened' influenced Envy. I hesitate to lump them into any sort of North American Black Metal type scene because they don't really fit the bit. There's a lot of elitism surrounding that type of thing. I think Skully, while maybe not being into Deafheaven, can probably understand what I mean in that. The whole throwing a label at a band because of a few things and then having it stick can work positively and negatively. Deafheaven does lots of cool shit with fast parts and delay. I like those things.

Live -- they're enjoyable because I think they sound good but they are a little bit boring. There's not a whole lot of movement outside of the singer. Because the Singer and guitarist are the primary songwriters/only dudes in the band and the rest are just "hired" musicians/friends that has a tendency to diminish the live show since for somebody it is just a job. The bassist looked especially bored by the whole ordeal.

On the subject of Between the Buried and Me -- I enjoyed Alaska a fair deal but can't really go back to it now and be stoked about it. I never got into anything after Alaska, Colors and up were pretty boring to me. The spastic ADHD riffage bores the ever loving shit out of me. I sat through two (hard to say) songs and then cut out. Sheeeesh.

I also caught O'Brother, Big Business and The Sword last night. That show proved to be far more worthwhile than BTBAM/Deafheaven.

O'Brother was fucking awesome. Total sleeper. I know Ryan at Fuzzrocious had been talking them up for awhile and they definitely satisfied. They were super loud and they really FILLED the space. Three guitars with some baritone here and there. Peavey t-40 and t-60 love. Peavey amp love. Lots of cool shit. A lot of energy.

Big Business was business as usual. The drummer is just so fucking intense while he plays. Dude is going off. There was a poor mix/guitar was way too quite/blended way to well with the bass parts and that sort of took away from the experience but the Biz brought the biz.

The Sword was good. They're a very tight band and that was really refreshing after O'Brother and Big Business, and I mean that in a "different styles of music" way and not that O'Brother or the Biz were sloppy. Hombre was playing one of those Big Crunch one-knob jobs that they talk about in a recent PremierGuitar rig talk thinger. Shit sounded super good. Somebody had said previously that they thought the Sword was kind of boring live/band members didn't seem that into it. I can totally see why people got that vibe. The on guitarist seemed like he was pretty into it but vocalist/guitarist, bassist and drummer all seemed super serious and/or bored. That being said, I was still super into their set and this tour package if definitely worth going to. Sweet pedals and amps abound. Had myself a little geargasm while I was there.
