Which TV Jones for middle pickup?

Post by npfrs »

So I'm working on replacing the pickups in a 3 pup guitar.

Bridge - Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF

Middle - TV Jones?

Neck - Seymour Duncan '59

I'm thinking a Magnatron for the middle pickup, possibly, but I'm wondering whether I should get the bridge or neck version? What style of pickup do you put in the middle position?

I think a Magnatron would be cool. Generally people put neck pickups in the middle position because of the slightly lower output, but if you're putting it with humbuckers you could get away with a bridge version probably.

You have the same neck/bridge arrangement as I do in my Strat. What guitar is this for?

Epiphone Black Beauty.

How do you like that combo? Does it balance well? It seems like a good mix of cost vs quality (as opposed to getting into specialty pickups or Gibson branded).

I think they're great, the '59 has been in there since 2002 and I've never once felt the desire to change it. The 36th I got because they didn't have an F-spaced '59 bridge in stock and I had a coupon that was about to expire, and besides I had heard only positive things about it. They balance perfectly; they're very, very similar pickups. I think if you like the old humbucker sound, you'll be happy.
