Pedals that have outlived the hype

Post by hazelwould »

I was thinking about stuff that was incredibly hyped, but still pretty popular.

El Cap comes to mind.

What else?

Really? I know it's on a lot of boards on here, but I thought that was because it's legit?

Hard to answer, as defining 'hype' and 'outlived' would be subjective and differ person to person.

They were the muff of the month kind of thing at first, but they maintain awesome status years later. I'd say that's outliving the (initial) hype.

Were those popular when released? I thought they were one of the ones that didn't get "hyped" till the past few years.

This!

I'd say the Dr. Scientist Elements fits in this category as well.

Dr. Scientist tends to get a ton of hype every new release and even after the hype dies they continue to be popular.

Pretty much anything that they are currently gay for over at The Gear Page..... with apologies to our gay members....

i think anything strymon, when they came about their pedals were the must haves but if you paid close attention you'd realize people would possess them and then flip them for something else in record time....

Yeah, maybe I don't understand the premise of the thread…Outlived as in "survived" and proved to stand up to the hype and go beyond, or Outlived as in, "didn't stand to the test of time, the hype was overblown kind of thing?"
