What's the best fuzz to place after a ring modulator?
I've been running my Randy's Revenge first in line.
Having a difficult time determining which fuzz to use after it.
I like the fuzz both before and after the ring mod. So, suggestions for either are actually welcome.
Thank you.

Re: What's the best fuzz to place after a ring modulator?
I had the newest Randy's for a bit when they came out. I remember not liking fuzz fed into it. I don't remember liking the Harmonic Percolator after it. Randy seemed a little bright to my ears. Seems like a fuzz with a nice beefy low end would be good afterwards. I kinda liked Randy for making subtle sounds but overall I didn't like it that much so I sold it after a month or so. I much prefer my Craig Anderton ring mod as it has an effects loop that I stick fuzz and delay in for utter destruction. The only thing I don't like about that one is I really like only only sound that frequency knob produces and it's a bitch "tuning" it in case the knob turns....

Re: What's the best fuzz to place after a ring modulator?
Thanks, LaoWiz, yeah, I've actually got both versions of Randy's Revenge, but've been playing with the newer one. The new one is definitely brighter. The old one has a warmth to it the new one just doesn't quite match. They're both great though.
The Harmonic Percolator is a weird circuit. It works extremely well with some pedals and not at all with others. I can't remember how it is with the Randy's Revenge. I'll have to try it again.
I think you're right about needing some fuzzy low end after it. I think I tried the Pharaoh, but somehow it wasn't really fuzzy enough. I'll have to try that again too.
Overall, I really love the Randy's Revenge. It's pretty inspirational. Tuning it is sometimes a bitch, but it's got the expression pedal too. So, that's nice. I like to go back and forth between the Hi and Lo range by switching the toggle with my toe. I have to be careful not to bump the Freq knob when I do that. The only thing I'd wish for would be that the frequency for the Hi and Lo be independently adjustable. Sometimes I'd like them set at different frequencies. Other than that, I totally love it.

Really?
You don't think that's more of a distortion than a fuzz?

That would be brilliant!Chankgeez wrote: Sometimes I'd like them set at different frequencies. Other than that, I totally love it.
And maybe a second footswitch to toggle hi/low too
I run an Algal Bloom after my RR and like it quite a bit
Algal Bloom's fit everywhere
I think I'm going to go try my AB-Synth after it.
I'm curious to see what will happen when feeding different frequencies into the oscillation mode

Re: What's the best fuzz to place after a ring modulator?
Thanks, MrNovember, yeah, I'm still trying to determine exactly what character of fuzz would sound best after. Sometimes with wild fuzzes there's too much harmonic content and hence too much feedback (especially with my microphonic pickups). Sometimes that's a good thing though.
I'd love a second footswitch on the Randy's. Flicking that mini-toggle with my toe occasionally gets a little tricky.

The Harmonic Perc is a weird circuit. I used it after a lot of fuzzes to help thicken and color the sound. I was thinking some kinda muff would sound good after the RR. Maybe one with a mids control.Chankgeez wrote:Thanks, LaoWiz, yeah, I've actually got both versions of Randy's Revenge, but've been playing with the newer one. The new one is definitely brighter. Yea, the new RR was too bright for my taste. I remember reading that the first one was darker. I actually have a copilot planetoid coming my way and I'm slowly slowly building a Ring Stinger.

Thanks, univalve, now I'm interested. Take your time (I won't be able to afford a BOR for quite some time anyway).univalve wrote: Jupp. Really. I will make you a sound file. Will Take some days.

Re: What's the best fuzz to place after a ring modulator?
In my short experience with ring mods, they get eaten up by splatty, velcro, and under biased sounds. I guess its too much nasty conflicting toans at once that its hard to tell the ring mod from the velcro through all the fuzz.
I have a v1 Crimson Drive that totally qualifies as a fuzz with the gain up. Pretty smooth and works great with ring mod

My thoughts exactly. Been a while since I had the RR but I remember those two working well, and the AB always stacks well with everything.MrNovember wrote:I run an Algal Bloom after my RR and like it quite a bit
