well, given Pope's advice i might get another strap for it.
i was initially thinking of moving it closer to the neck joint. At the moment i have a standard poly strap and if i let go of the neck it dives scarily fast to the floor, the first time i froze with fear that the headstock was going to smash on the floor, but thankfully, i don't wear the guitar that low! With 12 string it would be worse.
if you are building it yourself then you have options to help the situation. I would put the neck side on the neck joint or just behind the horn (behind the pickup selector switch), and the bridge side I would put above the pointy bit not below it.
