Wasnt really talking about sound quality, I was commenting on the too many tiny keys. I was not trying to slam volcas, they are excellent. My issue with the volcas is integrating them into a live band set up would require two 24 key midi keyboards for me. One for bass and one for keys. And they do not make shit like that anymore with hardwire midi. All I could find were usb midi.cedarskies wrote:I'm not looking for heaven. Can't imagine it feeling like heaven regardless with my 88 key Rhodes sitting there in the room, too. I'm really just too scared to gig with my micromoog after it failed me at a show and am looking for one of these [more reliable?] modern dudes. So I should probably just pony up for the sub 37, ey?PumpkinPieces wrote:Do what i did and buy the korg volcas first, then the microbrute feels like heaven.cedarskies wrote:Yep. Want.
So hard to decide where to turn to for my next synth purchase. Microbrute? MS20mini? OP1? Too many awesome choices. (Also too many tiny keys... but you can't have it all)

Re: Let's see your KEYS/SYNTHS!
So I went and checked out a bunch of synths today
Minibrute, Bass Station II, Dave Smith Mofo, Sub Phatty, Little Phatty Stage II , MS-20 Mini, MiniNova, Minimoog Voyager Performer.
Minibrute - no preset options. limited tone pallet. Very Dirty tones (not necessarily a bad thing)
Bass Station II - felt like a cheap piece of plastic. like really cheap. would be cool for home use if I wanted to make more electro (But I don't)
Dave Smith Mofo, - not a fan of the interface. couldn't get good sounds out of it
Sub Phatty - Nice, but limiting in the sounds I could get. Don't like that some features are underthe hood. looking forward to Sub37 (couldn't get an ETA)
Little Phatty Stage II - not bad either but at 1500$ I expected much more
Korg MS-20 Mini - no presets, cool sounds, but couldn't recreate a sound if my life depended on it.
MiniNova - another piece of cheap plastic. keys were too tiny.
Minimoog Voyager Performer - OMG. gimme a few months, because I'm selling whatever I don't use to buy one of these. Everything sounded like Gold. It's totally going to be worth it.
I'm still really happy with my Nord Lead 3, and the idea of buying a sub 2000$ analog synth just isn't worth it. Running my nord into pedals and a tube amp gets the sounds I'm looking for.

Re: Let's see your KEYS/SYNTHS!
Can anyone help me out with the name of that synth unit that got spring reverb built into it and is open on top? I was trying to look for it to show someone and I can't unlock the google search puzzle to find it.

Not at all the same thing, but some interesting spring based noise makers here as well.louderthangod wrote:Can anyone help me out with the name of that synth unit that got spring reverb built into it and is open on top? Re: Let's see your KEYS/SYNTHS!
this week I've got my eye on a prophet 12
if anyone wants to chime in on it, let me know.
I don't think I can wait long enough for the sub 37...
what's the deal with "PE" editions of DSI synths? I don't know what "PE" stands for.

yeah, bit too fast maybe. literally doubled in size over this past weekend. and I have about 10 more incoming (though half are kits and/or boring utility)
no shows. I've been pretty quiet on the show front this past year. I've been recording almost daily though. mostly random noodling and experimentation.
