Can any humbuckers be wired to have a coil-tap?

Post by BassIsBad »

Thinking of buying some Aguilar DCB pups for my bass, but I would really like to have a coil-tap option. Do the pickups have to be specialized with that capability, or could the right person install a coil-tapping system?

technically yes, but realistically no. They will need the four wire setup to be easily tappable. Some buckers come with two wire output and some with four. two of the wires are connected to make it the same as your typical 2 wire bucker set up. you COULD tap off of where the single coils connect to each other but you would have to very carefully disassemble the pickup and add the wires. not really practical.

Anyone have any experience with a Blacktop Jag? It seems that they have the same pups as the Blacktop Strat (which has factory tap and 5-way switch) but some forums online dispute this. I love this guitar, but it could use a few more tonal options.

I have a blacktop jag and put some nice custom made pickups in it. The stock ones are the two wire kind in mine.
