The right compressor will definitely mimic that sound. The Fairfield Circuitry The Accountant has the fat and bold tone of a pushed Matamp that's still clean, but has been rounded by volume, natural sustain and compression. It's not as dark or woolly like a Matamp, but it's in the right ballpark. The Pigtronix Germanium Philosopher's Tone might get you that sound better.

Cool - I really should check out a compressor sometime. Maybe try and find a cheapie Boss CS-3 locally to see if the effect is for me at all.

There was a dude over at hcfx that would do something very similar and ran one side of his rig into a bass amp with some octave down goodness with pretty fantastic results in a two piece band. I say go for it, and if you don't like it, at least your most of the way to having a bass rig

I don't think the Terminal is a superfuzz, but I could be wrong, and it may still get you those tones.

Yeah, I think my brother and I are actually moving closer to attempting this two-piece thing we've been discussing for ages, so I'm considering what's gonna work rig wise. It will be a long time before I can afford anything, and probably a while before we start assembling material (we're both full on with uni this year) but I'm just trying to get my head around what I wanna do.
In an ideal world, I'd be running my dream stereo guitar rig and adding a bass setup for some 3 amp action.

The Terminal is based on a Jax brand Companion Fuzz, so it's a cousin and can do some of the wacky shit

The FZ-2 has more of an aggressive top-end and a scooped midrange—that buzzsaw sound people rave on about—while the Terminal is more about squishy bass and honky midrange. Might give the same effect though.

Also, a bass amp + guitar amp is definitely awesome. My dream stereo setup is a Marshall Super Bass and a Fryette Deliverance 120 in stereo. I was really inspired to go that route when I saw Two Gallants live a couple of years ago. I know they're not Doom, but their guitar tone is pretty fucking heavy. They also inspired me to buy a Gretsch. Love that band.

Thanks for Yeah, I thought they sounded within range of each other, but I just wanted to hear from anyone with the FZ-2. I really like how gnarly both of them get around the edges, but wasn't sure which way to go, seeing as they are now identically fucking priced...stupid internet, driving up prices on old Boss pedals...

Yeah I've split my guitar amp out to a 212 and an ampeg bass 4x10 before and loved it, so getting a good sounding, dedicated bass side would yield highly satisfactory results, I am predicting.

Thoughts on two guitarists? It seems like the norm is one, but I'm thinking, just like amps and cabs; Moar= better(heavier).

When you get the right two, can be glorious. I had originally wanted two for Flux, but just never got the right guy in place and we got tired of looking and just kind of moved on as more and more material got written as a three piece. I'd still be glad to have another guy on guitar but we are not actively looking for that anymore. Kind of the same thing with vocals. Tony and I just learned to do that and we stopped looking for a singer.

Everything Ax said. It really comes down to who you can work well with. I have a mate who I jam well with, but who isn't interested in doing band stuff anymore, which is a bit frustrating.

I'd love to be in a band with you Skip. I've got an Alesis DM5 pro electric kit at home that I'm about to start putting to good use after years of it just sitting back there in my jam room as something for my son to beat on here an there. My wife is wanting to play bass in a band but is too shy to play live so we are going to do a bedroom band and record about 4 or 5 songs. She wants it to sound like Cavity. Shit is going to be fun.

Do any of you guys have use banners as a backdrop for your live shows? We're thinking of getting one made. Nothing huge or anything maybe 4 foot wide by 3 foot tall maybe. i saw a place online that made them pretty cheap awhile back but I can't remember where I saw it at.

That's awesome! My wife wants to get into playing an instrument and she played a lil bass before, plus our son has definitely shown interest in playing drums. So I'm gonna start teaching both of them, but a 6 year old with an acoustic drum kit would be a nightmare so I'm defintiely going electronic. Luckily one thing my local CL has a bunch of its used reasonably priced Roland Drum kits. The main one I'm looking at is a TD-6V kit, its not the greatest but It has alot more options for customizing the sounds than other drum kits in the price range I'm looking at. If I can make it sounds like a 28" kick, 20" floor, and 16" rack tom kit I'll be a happy camper haha

A couple of my bands have used backdrops, not banners but full on 8x8 back drops. It was interesting but usually a pain to get set up in the craze of equipment changeovers live.

My wife used to play bass when we first met. I wish she was still interested. Would make things so much easier.
Plus, it adds a good 150% to someones sexiness factor.

I didn't like the CS3 that I had. It was pretty noisy. That said though, I didn't really know how to use one so it could have been user error. I have a Dynacomp now and I like it for smoothing out some cleans. In a band setting though I like it better without it though as I like to be able to pick harder and get a little grit going and really nice cleans when backing off. I really love it for ambient loops. That is where it really shines in my setup. and it isn't noisy at all either.

i can't imagine i'll ever be in another band with only one guitarist. so much better sounding and so much more fun from a songwriting perspective to have two. not only is there the sonic benefit of having the tones from the two different rigs, but the possibilities with harmonies and counterpoint add so so much to what you can achieve sonically, be it heaviness or emotion of any kind or cool clean passages. far far beyond what could be reasonably accomplished by one dude, even with a looper or two. plus, two sets of ears can be a really good thing for dialing in a good guitar sound.

You guys need to d what's right for your band, but my gut reaction is, "fuck any venue that has a problem with band names". Regardless of how offensive you might find a name, you owe it to a band to give em a shit and see that shit in context.
My favorite Australian band name right now is Ah, Fuck That.
They still manage to get gigs, even in sleepy old brisbane.

Are they tracking that Black Pussy are fucking awesome? Flip it on them and ask why they wont let black performers play in their club.
Personally I say cancel the show and put the place on Blast. I already know I don't want to play there.
