Best way to pretty up my clean toanz
Yep. The most undoom thing to ask about.
Don't get me wrong, I love my little Ampeg...but since it's an Ampeg, it has those blunt bludgeoning cleans, which is nice most of the time. From time to time I want some of dem TGP Fender cleans though. You know the ones I'm talking about - always described with douchey adjectives like shimmery, alive, chime, sparkle, and other bullshit like that. BUT I WANT THEM GODDAMMIT.
How might I go about doing this without buying another amp? Compressor with tone control, EQ, buffer, an 'always on' clean boost?
So, yeah...any suggestions?

I think an EQ or treble boost is the way to go here. If you want it on cleans only, you can set it for a thinning effect and drop the level below unity. Then when you engage the effect, you get a volume drop for clean and you thin the sound a bit. I've no experience with compressors, though they might be what you want if you need to squish you sound a little, I think a tone control would be pretty important though.
I also recently turned down the bass a bit on my amp, upped the presence and switched to thinner picks. I found my recorded cleans were rather dark and dirty and this helped immensely. Of course, you may not be looking for a constant change.

RANGEMASTER. DO IT.
Seriously though, they are a great Swiss Army knife if you add a 'Range' knob onto them.
I just got this Fender PA 100 and I didn't think it could get any more Fendery on the cleans, but then I plugged in the Rangemaster and was like WUT

Rangemaster makes sense. Maybe an EQ.
Question. Let's say I generally don't like the sound of the amp when I turn down the mids, would an eq sound the same if I scooped out some mids? Or since it's operating on different/specific frequencies, would it sound different/better?

Depending on the range of the EQ pedal there would probably be some overlap but a 6 band EQ is gonna have twice the range (or at least twice the number of points) for you to be able to sculpt.

Hmmmm. Probably best to start with a Rangemaster/Treble boost and check out an EQ if that doesn't do it for me.

I don't think there is a more perfect way to reply than Murderface. He just looks so disappointed.
