I really want an iPad for music. I think it would be a decent cure for my noisebox addiction. Owner of a Monotron, Monotron Duo, having a Mixtape Alpha on order and having though about ordering some patchblocks and littlebit synthkits recently, I decided I needed a a change of path.

I already have a few music apps on my iPhone (DM1, Animoog, Filtatron, iMaschine, Garageband) that I got over time when they were on the cheap. I also got myself Arturia's iMini and iSEM when they were half off. Samplr will be my first purchase when I get an iPad. The idea of being able to use it as complement to my synths (Moog Little Phatty & Korg Microkorg), as a second drum machine, as a funny lo-fi samplr using the built in mic and Samplr or as controller for my Mac and Logic X (thanks to the remote) is enticing.

I'm looking at Minis with Retina display 'cause they seem to have a lot more processing power and can be had at a decent price for something Apple if you don't need much hard drive space. I'll go for the 16 gs version. I won't need more as it will be used almost exclusively for music apps.

My bandmate in Etherealness uses one. It's a surprisingly great tool for being creative. We actually recorded some sounds on our two first EPs. The Moog tracks on Etherealness II is actually Animoog IIRC.

Copy the link from the browser, erase everything after (and including) the ampersand if there is one, put between the brackets, works.

There was no ampersand, and I'm not sure what I did differently, but it worked this time.

Free app, Grainproc. Chops up your tone and rearranges it into a smooth pad. It's running between my Superego and El Capistan via the cheapo old version of the iRig.

Some iOS sale/free stuff for NAMM:

Moog Animoog for iPhone is free right now. (Full price for iPad version.)

Korg's existing apps are half off. Their new app, Gadget, has 25% off intro pricing at $29. Trying to figure out what the new one is about--it looks like a synth and drum machine sim collection.

Just got Waldorf Nave (wavetable synth). It's fucking beautiful. Ambient soundscapey atmospheres and drones, endless bizarre noise goodness, and insane effects possibilities that will take years to fully understand and explore. Worth every penny.

I just bought Korg's new Gadget app. Intro 25% off pricing ends tomorrow, 2/23, $24 bucks. Pricey for an app, but it's got a lot of sounds, seems pretty easy so far, and is kind of deep in possibilities. Flexible grid programming with up to four of their instruments at once. I've seen someone comment that it's like the closest thing to Reason for iOS. Dunno, but I like it so far.

Hell yes!

Edit:

Samplr & Nave, what more could you need?

I was thinking about buying a poly synth, but since my dad has an ipad he never uses, I'm just using that with a midi keyboard. I already have and used animoog and some other stuff, and really like it, except for the keyboard.

I'm getting a powered hub to connect the keyboard to the ipad, something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/171204728128?ss ... 1423.l2649
Do you guys know if this will charge the ipad and provide the power some keyboards need that the ipad can't deliver?

What's the best way to connect the ipad to an amp? I'll probably use it connected to a bass amp most of the time, so should I use a stereo to mono cable? do those even exist?!

You can just use a stereo cable to connect. The tip will carry signal either way.

Auria and the lite version, Auria LE are on sale for about half-off for $25 and $12, respectively, through July 6th in the App Store. The LE to full upgrade available as an in-app purchase is also half off at $12, also through July 6th. It totally works to save a buck off of the sale price by buying the LE version and then upgrading. Full normally runs $50.
