Bugera 1960 for doom????
I'm really considering buying one. It's a 150 watt plexi clone. Does anyone know if it's good enough for some funeral doom?

As long as it's loud, it'll work for doom.

Yep, and a nice clean channel is bonus if you like pedals (who doesn't like pedals?)

you'll do way better with an older 120 watt peavey for a similar price. vtm 120. much much more reliable. and really good sound. you have to get up early and pack a lunch if you plan on breaking one of those old peaveys.

If you can find one. They seem to be remarkably scarce in my area. Guess the word's out.

Yeah and ive been using the bugera 6260 for the last 6 years for doom and black metal and its been spectacular. Have you owned a bugera to say such negative things about it?

Re: Bugera 1960 for doom????
The bad vibes some folks have for Bugera are kind of well deserved. When they came out I can remember seeing a LOT of people who became instant fanboys of it and would get on whatever guitar site and rave about them. So a lot more people went out and bought them.
Then they started to fail. It wasn't a minor failure either. the things were catching fire and doing so in spectacular fashion. I remember thinking "well thats the end of that company" A similar thing happened when Earth Sound Research Switched to cloning peavey solid states and cut corners. that company didn't survive.
I gotta give them credit though, they hung in there, fixed the design, are still around and as far as I know there are no major issues with the amps they are making now. The ONLY reason I would not be into getting one is the PCB mounted knobs and jacks. just a pain in the ass to work on or replace a single component.
It's a cheap marshall clone circuit and I dont turn my nose up at them when I see one, but not for me, purely due to construction aspects.

I use one, its like a far louder and bassier plexi, lots of bass players use them too, gives you an idea of how much bass they have on tap.
Chain the channels together and keep channel one low, its quite bright, but channel 2 is VERY dark, i run the volumes at : ch 1 barely on, ch 2 at noon.......VERY loud

True, personally I don't care though I'd play thru a decomposing squirrel if it got me the tone I wanted
