Less is more: Yngwie, art, shred, drone, Orwell, gear...?
I've noticed an alarming trend the past few days with some dedicated breaux mentioning PT-nanos, downsizing and generally owning and utilising less fuzz. In the interest of sorting this shit out before it gets out of hand, LISTEN TO YNGWIE! He knows what he's talking about.

Was talking to AA today about fuzzes, not thinking I had a whole lot. But then I started listing them out and realized I actually had a decent amount, I just record with 90% of them and only use 2 live haha

I think when you're going to AA meetings for fuzz, maybe more is too much.skullservant wrote:Was talking to AA today about fuzzes, not thinking I had a whole lot. But then I started listing them out and realized I actually had a decent amount, I just record with 90% of them and only use 2 live haha

Re: Less is more
I started playing bass in a rock trio. I brought my board to the first rehearsal... we finished two songs, so i had quite some space to try shit out
I have around 10 pedals on my board. That makes sense when I use them with guitar, but with bass, I found out i was mostly using like... five. Sure i could haul the whole board to each rehearsal, because I'm so lucky that all my pedals sound great both on guitar AND bass... However it's a question whether i'm willing to haul the extra kilos just because of using my fingerprint for one or two parts or whether I am able to use two delays and a verb on bass...
so it'll probably be Digitech PDS 20/20 into Mini into Fix'd fuzz into Memory Man... plus a Polytune. They all sound stellar on bass... might actually try the whole board for now to determine whether the Fingerprint is not a better choice for fuzz. I just feel like it might not be worth carrying the whole huge board around, you know
so scaling down makes sense to me

I get ya. My guitar board has about 20 pedals and my bass 'board' is just mini -> chorus -> reverb.DarkAxel wrote:I started playing bass in a rock trio. I brought my board to the first rehearsal... we finished two songs, so i had quite some space to try shit out

I think what goroth is getting at is that a lot of people might be trying to scale down their setup for the sake of scaling down and not because they're only using a few of those pedals.
When we should all be embracing the glory of the pedaltrain pro and dozens of different flavours of FUZZZZZZZZ

Re: Less is more
I have a lot of pedals because I like to use a lot of pedals. If something becomes redundant or I find myself not playing it much I sell it. I could easily get by with less but I don't have to so I don't.

I carry my pedalboard to and from my jam space b/c I use it at home and at the space... I only "use" what I can fit on the board.... but I'm always rotating through different things.....

Re: Less is more
I got tired of having two rows of pedals, so now everything is one straight row. And, then I sold the rest for more amps.

I saw Yngwie open for DIO back around '85/'86. What a cheese fest that was. Shit's embarrassing.

Re: Less is more
I know what you mean, I borrowed a Rising force concert on vhs from my mom's friend.
It was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Also I couldn't stop myself from buying this.
