Caroline Kilabyte vs. DBA Echo Dream 2 Smackdown

Post by PostPaintBoy »

Ok so I'm going to buy one of these. Fact. What I need now is some assistance from you people in regards to which one. Anybody have experience with both or care to share their opinions about which one they have tried out? Thanks.

I haven't tried the ED2, but I'd probably get the KB. The only thing is, that dude needs to put the mod knob on the top. It's something that is only marginally more work to add into the layout but adds so much more to the pedal. I would've snagged one, but he said $20 to add the mod knob to the top. Meh, it stops me from buying.

I've tried the Echo Dream II but not the Kilobyte.
What is it that you're after? I might be able to tell you if the Echo Dream could get you there or not.

FWIW, I kept the Belle Epoch and let the Echo Dream go.

I'm in a noise band, so the wackiness of the echo dream 2 would certainly help, but the oscillation switch in the kilobyte seems really interesting. I suppose if the echo dream had an oscillation switch it would be an easier decision.

I personally found the Echo Dream kinda boring sounding. Nothing really too special about it. :idk:

I just got one and same... It's a good delay, without a doubt, and the fuzz and modulation are nice but there's just nothing too special about it, especially at the msrp. I paid $185 and that was worth it, but I wouldn't pay over $200.

Yeah. I thought it would be more interesting than it was. I've not heard much about that newer DBA Delay though, I think Uncle Grandfather got one, but I can't remember? :idk:

Clips of the DBA Delay:

If I played guitar I'd prolly pick one of these up as a second delay

I'm waiting for the Smallsound/bigsound Cloudsleep. It sounds like it could be a contender for your delay needs:
smallsnd/bigsnd wrote:fully analog.

controls include:
knobs - gain, mix, volume, mod sensitivity, mod depth, photo-eye depth, filter mode (rotary)
joysticks - delay time/feedback, filter cutoff/resonance
toggles - gain position, filter position (not shown), photo-eye destination - i still need to work these out more
footswitches - oscillation, bypass

CV in - selectable for either cutoff or delay time?
