Killswitch

Post by npfrs »

Let's say I want to put a killswitch in my guitar but I want it to allow sound to pass when it's pressed down and not pass any sound when it's left alone. To do this, I'd also want a mini-toggle to put it in/out of the circuit. Am I looking for normally open or normally closed?

Who else has a similar killswitch mechanism?

Seems like you'd want a 'normally closed' switch. When not pressed, you'd want the switch closed and completing a path to ground. Hit the switch to break the grounding connection and your guitar will pass signal as per usual.

So I'm still slightly baffled on this... couldn't I use a normally-open button which is connected to a ground and then closes to the output?

Yes... Normally open or normally closed and they reverse when you push them...

I just saw a new Gibson SG at the store with the tone pot wired this way, push to kill...

"Push to kill" is the opposite of what I'm after - I want "Push to allow sound to pass."
