Two months to diagnose a problem? I'd say you need to find a new tech. Ordering parts or something sure, that can delay the process. But you should be taking your amp to a guy that actually knows how to fix it....

I don't mind long wait times as long as I know what I'm going in to. The guys said, when I dropped my amp off, "best tech on this side of the state."
cool, I'm in to that.
Gave me a slip of paper said, "One to two weeks."
Guy told me a different guy would call me.
I've heard nothing in three weeks. Weekday off tomorrow though; I'll probably call.

There was nothing wrong with it, just wanted to have the tubes changed, maybe new caps and a good cleaning. :(

6 months for an SVT. The power transformer blew, and my tech couldn't find a correct replacement (vintage amp). Apparently it is rare for the power transformer to fail (?) so those parts are almost all being used in working amps. He finally contracted someone to build a new transformer to the correct specs, which also took time.

Friend had a Bogen Challenger CHB100 that we took to the only tech in Arlington, TX. Gave it to him, described what happened, and were told "We'll give you a quote in a week".

Three months later
, he called and said "Well, we can't fix it, but we did find a schematic after two months, the output transformer is shot and we just don't do that here. That will be $89".

Bought a new transformer from Hammond, got it in five days, took it to a tech in Ft Worth, had the amp back six days and $70 later.

Never went to that first tech again, kept taking my amps to that second tech until last year, having not lived in the same county for three years. Unfortunately, his health became poor too the point where he couldn't do much work anymore. Still miss that guy to this day.

Well when I e-mailed them up front asking if they'd like my business I specified what I had and what preamp tubes it would need (if needed) and they said they had worked on one before... soooooooo.... I'll probably give them a call in a few hours here.

I just want my little Russian tank home in time for the Olympics, you guys.

and then I need to take the VTM in to have it worked on, too.

I'm loud amp less until these get fixed... I've been surviving on my JetCity PicoValve to get things done. And with the pre set low and the master set to ten it can compete with a drummer (especially when completed obliterated by a Demon King and Pharaoh -- but that makes the feedback get a little wild).

Well, soon after I made this post I got a call saying my shit was fixed. So, if you find yourself waiting too long for your gear, post in this thread. It might work for you too!

Took my acoustic in for a headstock repair and refret, so I expected it to take some time. Two months pass, I call him and he gives me a sob story about the stresses of becoming a homeowner. Another couple months pass and he finally calls to be like "so what did you need done other than the headstock repair?"

If you don't have time to even look at my guitar for four months don't fucking accept the job.

Other story: he also sold me a Planet Waves guitar humidifier and told me to follow the directions to keep my guitar in good shape. I did, and it developed a small surface crack. I took it back to him and I was like "yeah I was refilling it like it said, once a month, isn't that enough?" He rolls his eyes and goes "yeah maybe in Mexico." I was just a kid, didn't know about humidification, and relied on my tech (a professional luthier, too!) to keep me informed. I didn't understand quite how douchey this all was at the time, butwhen I think about it, it still pisses me off even 10 years later.

On an unrelated note... I talked to my tech after I posted this. He said one of the preamp tubes was a little noisy and they were going to order a new set. Tomorrow will have been seven days (five business days) since I last talked to them. I won't be able to pick it up until Friday anyway but I'll probably give them a call as Friday will have been a solid month.

Now I have to decide if I'm going to take the VTM elsewhere or not. Guhhhh. There is a local dude who has been working on amps for a super long time and he does while you wait repairs, which wouldn't work for the RedBear, really, but is more of a reality with the VTM. He will also kind of teach you what's going on in there, which would be kind of cool. Might check it out.

My AC30 has been at a shop for a few months now. I brought in two amps at once, so the Vox didn't get worked on until the other was finished. After he replaced the tubes, he noticed that there was an issue with the transformer. So we order a new transformer, but it turns out to be a slightly different one that would require changing the amp slightly, which isn't optimal as I plan to sell it. So now he has to get the correct transformer. Hopefully it won't be too much longer, but at least I know why it's been there all this time.
