Looking for a good distortion...
Well a while ago, I saw a great looking and great sounding heavey distortion. Well I lost the link to the company and now I'm trying to find it. I believe the company made multiple distortions on the high end of price $150-$250. The one I liked was a mesa clone. Even if you don't know the exact company tell me what dirt you do like. Thanks.

Wampler's Triple Wreck? They make a lot of more expensive amp-like distortions.
edit: should clarify that I've never used the Triple Wreck, it just sounds like the pedal he might be thinking up. My current dirt is FB-2 into Moog Drive. Hoping to add an Oxide to cover the extreme fuzz end of the spectrum.

Wampler Triple Wreck is scoop, I like mids.
I've heard good things abour the Dawner Prince RED ROX distortion but never tried one.
To me the Dr. Scientists The Element is the best distortion (and more) box.

Also a HUGE fan of The Elements. Great high, med, and low gain tones with a powerful EQ. The Iron Pig and Rat Tail are great options too if you're a fan of RATs. Oh, and the EQD Talons seems cool.
Haven't tried any Wampler stuff but they're all the rage over on TGP.
Catalinbread makes a shit ton of dirt boxes as well.

Re: Looking for a good distortion...
For modern dirt with options, I've been pleased with the Basic Audio Lucky Number.
It likes literally everything I plugged into it (buckers, single coil, Bass VI) and sounds good into a clean or already dirty amp.
If I want regular ol' modern high gain with options or something in that vein, it rocks.

The Elements and Guyatone MM-X(old & discontinued) are the best distortions I've ever played.
I'm sure there are lots of others though. Wampler makes a bunch of good ones, as Leaves Turn mentioned. AMT makes a bunch. Greenhouse, Amptweaker, Okko, are some others. Can't really think of any others off the top of my head

In before someone mentions The....
Oh, wait what?
Nice thing about The Elements is that it's far from a one trick pony, so two guitarists both using the elemeents can both have a great tone going on and sound completely different. There are some pedals that might be better for a specific thing, but none that I know of that are so great at so much.

Truth. I don't even use it as a distortion all the time. Some times its a cleanish boost, or an EQ for my other pedalsAxAxSxS wrote:Nice thing about The Elements is that it's far from a one trick pony, so two guitarists both using the elemeents can both have a great tone going on and sound completely different. So much this. I was about to buy a second Elements until Ryan brought back the Cleanness which I use for low gain and boosting. And more EQ'ing if need be.Jero wrote:Truth.
