I was playing a sub phatty at the guitar center and that thing is crazy cool but i don't know if i want to fork out that kind of dough. Something simple that may do stuff like the sub phatty that i can run through my Echorec, DMM, and Rams Head. I really like stuff like Lauri Spiegel and NIN stuff. I was thinking of just getting an ipad and try all the apps. Coolness.

those are all i can think of. basically "affordable" synths, some probably more affordable than others. features and sound obviously all differ quite abit (you'll have to do the research) but yeah, these are all at pretty okay price points depending on your budget of course. i personally went with a dark energy (sound, semi-modular, looks, superb build quality) for lead sounds and a minitaur for bass (because, well, moog). but that was before alot of the synths above became available. i prefer a module type synth because i suck at playing keys, dont really think of synths as a "keyboard player", prefer the feel and compositional method of sequencers, and if i really want to play a keyboard, i have a cheap keyboard controller (alesis) which i use to play different synths
hope that helps!
