A thickening, not-chorusy chorus. Suggestions?

hey ILF, I'm looking for a chorus. Any suggestions?

I have a Red Witch Empress. It's great, but it's very shimmery and chorale-y. I'm looking for something more akin to the effect of recording the same thing being played multiple times and layering them on top of each other. I guess that's what a chorus is, but there's just something about chorus effects and this Empress that make them sound so choir-like to me.

What do you think? Dr. Scientist Cosmichorus? Earthquaker Sea Machine (the chorus for folks who hate chorus)?

BOSS DC-2 or the Behringer clone of it if you don't want to spend loads (don't let the name put you off, it's very good and insanely good value).

Cosmichorus v3 with Clock toggle in the middle (shallowest setting) with Mix, Rate and Clock knobs set low.

The CCv3 is the be-all end-all.

I think the Cosmi is too intense even at it's most shallow to be subtle. The Sea Machine does it a lot better IMO. The reverb/delay thing in it makes it much more spacey than any other chorus I've tried.

Some great suggestions in here, I use chorus for thickening as well and don't want it to sound like I am using chorus. The Boss works fine for me.

Well it's really really good, but I've just sold mine which I never thought would happen. The Warped Vinyl kicked it off my board. I thought I would have it for crazy and very pronounced effects but there is just nothing it cannot do. It is perfect for efficiently adding subtle modulation mixed with the clean signal in a way that makes it actually difficult to pinpoint what is going on. You know and feel something is making it sound differently but it is so natural it seems to 'melt' with the rest. I would have kept both But I still have a Retrosonic and a Dimension C so I had only one slot for a versatile beast.

I agree on the Warped Vinyl.
The Cosmichorus V3 is also great but it can't go as subtle as the Warped Vinyl, the extra plus is that the vibrato sounds on the Warped Vinyl can go much subtler as well so all in all I think it's a choice more suited to what you seem to want to do.
The Sea Machine is pretty okay but in my opinion it sounds a bit thin next to a really great chorus like the Cosmichorus V3 or Warped Vinyl and I think it's definitely not as versatile as either one of those.

i havent tried it myself, but maybe have a look at that iron ether chorus, it looks like it works more like multitracking, with up to 4(?) voices

The micro pitch on the eventide pitchfactor can do a very non chorusy chorus.
