Eau Claire Thunder

Post by dorfmeister »

Just got one of these in a trade from Mr. Aen and I am really liking it a great deal. I am getting some great heavy distortion/fuzz and at lower gain settings it can even be clean essentially which can lead to some interesting sounds. I really like the bass response and the tonal variations possible with the tone blast and the time warp. The time warp is especially is more noticeable as the overall gain gets higher. This thing has huge output. :omg:

The momentary switch with the feedback loop can great some interesting sounds. I had it stacked into my DBA Interstellar Overdriver Supreme and was getting some crazy sounds combining the feedback loop with the envelope controlled trem setting on the IOS. :omg:

I think I heard somewhere that it is based on the big muff circuit. I am curious how it might be different from it or if it is even based on the muff at all. :idk: :poke: Not asking for a schematic!

I can hear similarities between it and my Dice Works Muff Diver but the tone controls have a greater range, there is more bass, and it seems to have a greater variety of sounds. This is just what I have noticed in the short time I have played it.

A friend who has played many pedals played through it and he thought it seemed more fuzz faceish than muffish. It is hard for me to say because the Muff Diver I have also seems to be a more touch sensitive pedal that will clean up some unlike some of the muffs I have played through (but not owned). The Muff Diver is the first muff I have owned.

It know that when the tone blast gets kicked in the tone controls are bypassed. Seems like it also bypasses the time warp?

A couple of thoughts:

One thing that could really be cool with the Eau Claire is just to remove the momentary switch for the feedback loop and have it on all the time with a knob and an expression pedal out to control how much it is feeding back. Level on the knob/expression pedal could be 0 > full on. Tune could also be interesting with an expression pedal out methinks.

I think it would be nice to have the time warp switch as a foot switch.

First I built a green russian muff to specs, and it sounded horrible. So I changed a bunch of stuff, eliminated some parts, added some, most notably one of the clipping diodes is switched to a green LED which you can also remove from the circuit. Tone Blast bypasses the tone stack/control,

Interesting. So what were you trying to get out of it that the Green Russian didn't possess?

Does the time warp remove the green led from the circuit?

Do different colored LED's clip differently from each other?

Does the "Tone Blast" bypass the "Time Warp"?

Thanks. I like to ask questions.

A Behringer vintage Distortion with clean bypass, no "muff dive" mid scoop, and reliable parts.

They sound really good, but have a shitty bypass and a bit of a midscoop. And they fall apart.
