White noise generator

Post by Dexterecus »

Hey ILF,

I've been doing some quick searching for a white noise generator. Just a small pedal that I can integrate in a mixer to create a wall of white noise.
So far I've found some pedals but they've all been $200+, surely there are cheaper alternatives?
You just need a passive bass, a tube amp, and a metric ton of marijuana and Sabbath worship.

Yeah, lots of schematics out there. Hell, I'd build it for less than $100.

Does not take much room, $60 or so without shipping, can be powered from the ring of an exp/CV input.

I was half ass working on one, but it's way more involved, like the LAL Sandstorm. It's pushed aside for now though.
Something like the schematic Morange posted/offered to build would prob be better for your needs.

Check out the Copilot Arrow, and also the Arrow Airwaves, which adds additional options like an LFO to sweep the white noise in and out of your signal.

That's how Bill Ruppert does it on the cheap: a jack plug into a Big Muff...

I bought one of these etched from Noisekick FX last year. It was a straight white noise blend-in with a slightly resonant filter. No envelope, but it worked nicely with my synth setup. I paid under $100, then flipped on eBay for around the same.

might not be up your alley, but another alt if you have a sampler or even some kind of tape recorder would be to just record your own white noise and stuff, then manipulate!

Hello fellow countryman,
I got a small and easy White Noise Generator from evilbay, made by a guy called Alan Exley. It was £40.
Check it here (near the bottom of the page, there is also a Youtube clip floating around):

If you want more options, i 2nd CopilotFX tip from above!

Audible Disease has a white noise generator too, but if you really want cheap, what about a portable AM radio that isn't tuned in to a station. Radios have 1/8 inch jacks out. A radio will cost you between 5 and 20 dollars (plus batteries).

You can find tons of white noise/colors of noise apps online, a lot for free. I take my phone and use those out the headphone jack. Some even have sweep generators.

I actually have an old Walkman I gutted and exposed touch points on. I put it on AM static, the touch points actually amplify and vary the noise.
(Sometimes I put on talk radio and layer the voices, distort them, and pitch shift it.)
So, yes. That is also a great idea.
