I will respect Randy's gender identity, whatever it may be, as long as it accepts my prodding 1/4" input and power supply. and spits out appropriately.

In a related matter who the fuck looks at their baby, their flesh and blood and DNA-carrier, precious fragile emblem of life, and says "Better name this little fella RANDY."

Space6oy, I have the mooger fooger ring mod and an eventide mod factor. I love them both. the Modfactor is actually almost always in use. I am usually using some degree of either the Undulator, tremolo [midi-sync], Ring mod and the Modfilter. That's not even half of what's in the box. It's just what I use it for. I like having the expression pedal with it too, though which adds to the space. If you have a stereo rig, it's fucking awesome…lose hours with stereo undulator.

Can the fredric go slow? for that great intro of that one song?

And generally other Moog ring mod sounds? Or is Moog the requirement for ORL tones?

i suspect no other ring mod will sound like this though... and ORL ring mods are the ones that give me bonar

The EHX FA can get pretty close to the Eriatarka sound, but the Roulette Dares intro has the LFO sweeping the carrier frequency, so you need something with an LFO in it. So pretty much, the Mooger, the Ring Stinger, the Mobius, and I think the Modfactor can do it, too.

Here in Portland, the eventide stuff comes up with some regularity on craigslist.

Compared to space and timefactor which pretty much offer variations of a specific effect the, Modfactor is more like "let's put everything else that isn't reverb or delay in this one box." If I actually limit what I want from it, I find that I end up playing with it almost all the time. When playing with a band with another guitarist, it's something that I use to quickly create a different timber/quality to what I am bringing to the mix.

I think you could do the same with a Ring Mod that lets you control the frequency with an expression pedal, like Randy's Revenge for instance.
Maybe it's even easier to control that way because you can sweep it yourself instead of having to play to the really slow LFO (with really slow LFO's that's usually quite hard to do I find).
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

Yeah, that's a possibility too. I personally have a hard time mimicking an LFO with my foot, the sweeps need to be really even and stay at the same speed and size. I usually find it easier to just do it with an LFO.

Get two Randy's and use the cv out from one to control the sweep of the other. But win the lottery first.

I've been using the Way Huge Ringworm lately. It is quite versatile with an expression pedal, but I have to allocate it to a loop as the pedal bleeds into the bypassed signal. Great for those 'Hawkwind' moments.

Anyone ever play the zvex ring mod pedals? I don't think I've seen people talk about them on here.
