allot of touring musicians use cheap pedals

Post by spacefuzz »

Don't get me wrong. I love all the crazy pedals with awesome graphics that are shiny and new and supporting diy builders etc etc. But in saying that, I have noticed by watching live videos on youtube etc that most of my fave musicians use boss, ehx, line 6 loopers etc etc. So to all you peeps on here that cant afford a $250 fuzz, $350 robot, $200 reverb etc etc, do the best with what you've got. Look on ebay, craigslist and even on here and you can find some great cheap pedals. Here are a couple of examples of amazing shit going down with cheap pedals.

Isn't that the purpose of a youtube channel?

That'd be too obvious.

Reliability? Ease of replacement? Easy to find on the road? I imagine those play a part.

Psyched to watch this DMST video...haven't seen this one.

The bigger companies have more $ to offer free gear/reduced price gear for bigger name bands as endorsements. I don't use Boss pedals, but if they wanted to give me free stuff because I'm in a touring act, I'd at least listen to what they have to offer.

I've been shocked more than once to find some of my favorite bands using those cheapo danelectro mini food pedals.

I guess a Big Muff. I prefer the Way Huge Swollen Pickle which is pretty cheap on the used market.

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.

I remember Buzzo talking about using Boss because he could be anywhere on tour and replace it.

Central Asian masters of the dôtar have a saying: it's not the instrument, it's what you do with it.
