I' ve been getting into Kyuss lately. Normally I stay away from anything with even the slightest whiff of metal (unless it is early Black Sabbath - Ronnie James Dio need not apply) but this is some good fuzzy, hazy, throbbing stuff.

Why is it that everytime Kyuss is mentioned, i think of Clutch? Maybe it's the fuzz...

It seems like metal over the last 30 years has been getting faster, faster and less weird and it seems to me that the opposite is exactly where it should be going. Slower and more Psychedelic. Weird and rangey. Down the rabbithole....out into the cosmos. Right now it is all fast and sinister, full of angst, and boring. I want it to me more sabbathy, more stoogey, More AC/DCey, More Helmety, more garagey, punkier, thrashier, angrier, more depressed and elated at the same time, less flashy, less hair metally, less shreddy, Less Virtuosoey, less nu-metally, les van haleney, less rap metally, less death metally, les Dethkloky, less Mansony, Less Disturbedy, less faux scary, less horrory..... anybody agree?

Thing is I hate the scene and the music has gotten boring as hell. Right now I find the only metal genres with bands who aren't just copying each other are doom metal and black metal. Since I don't like the latter, my discovery of doom metal made it one of my favourite genres.

I somehow missed the whole stoner/doom thing that happened in the 90's. When Sleep and Kyuss (and later Electric Wizard) were kicking major ass, I was listening to techno and industrial music mostly.

Well in the last week, I finally sat down and listened to Sleep's Holy Mountain and Dopesmoker, and also to Come On Fanatics. HOLY SHIT especially Dopesmoker, which rocked my lame ass into next week
