Re: Recommend Vibes
To be honest for me the EQD The Depths didn't really do it, I tested it last time against a Black Cat Vibe and a MG Vibe and in my opinion it was swiped by those two in terms of depth and fullness of sound and versatility.
Both the Black Cat as well as the MG have a very nice vibrato sound that's easily accessed through a toggle switch while The Depths doesn't do this at all and I was continuously trying to dial The Depths to have the same beautiful deep throb as the other two, at which it failed.
On the other hand, it depends on what you want offcourse, if you're looking for more of a subtle effect The Depths might be exactly what you're looking for and give you different shades of that sound.
Other quite subtle vibes I tried (that I didn't like either) were the Fulltone Dejavibe and the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, those kind of vibes just don't sound good on cleans or lower gain to me, which makes them less versatile in my opinion.
Then there's the Sweet Sound Mojo Vibe which is quite okay but has a bit of a (higher) midboost that gives it a bit of a plasticlike feel to me, this one is probably great for Hendrix type stuff but that's not the way I like to use a vibe, I like it to get really deep and swampy, almost creepy / creeping on clean or lower gain passages.
I also tried the Effectrode Tube Vibe which was nice too, probably the best of the rest but that tube doesn't really do much to it's sound in my opinion, in fact I still prefer the Black Cat Vibe and MG Vibe.
Oh yeah, and the MJM Sixties Vibe is pretty nice as well, probably not quite as swampy as the Black Cat or MG but maybe a little bit more Hendrixy, a bit like the Tube Vibe I'd say.
The Black Cat Vibe, MG Vibe and MJM Sixties Vibe are the ones I'd recommend but like I said that's completely personal and comes from the way I like to use a vibe (TWSS).
EDIT:
Oh yeah, forgot about some.
Nowadays there's also some offspring of the Phase 45 / Phase 90 category that does a nice vibelike sound, it can't hurt to look in that ballpark as well, if you're looking for a versatile and nice sounding option there's the VFE Enterprise which is pretty great and for one that will always fit on your board there's the Lovepedal Pickle Vibe which is nice too.
Both are definitely not as fat as my three vibe recommendations but still viable options because they can go places the other ones can't (wow, the story got pretty nasty there if you're reading it differently)...

Haven't tried that one, I just watched Kayzer's video on it, seems cool!Doctor X wrote:tristan, did you try the retroman stereo vibe?
I forgot I also tried the Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe but as with the Deja Vibe and the Micro Vibe I didn't seem to care much for that one either.

Both? I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I have a sound in my head that I'd like an answer to. I've never owned or wanted a vibrato pedal before now, thoughbigchiefbc wrote:Are we talking pitch vibes, or univibes?

Can you post a YouToob example of that sound in your head?

Re: Recommend Vibes
Something that's close-ish is right at the start of this song:

I want to feed it synth'd guitar (bsy600, superego, ebow, anything sustained) and get a nice, quick and shallow yet distinct, very analogue-sounding warble. Obviously I'd like the pedal to do more than this, but that's specifically what I'm looking for
The black cat looks promising. Expression pedal control is always a plus. Dat price though... if I wanted to spend $300 I would go for a warped vinyl.

Re: Recommend Vibes
You mean the first sound that comes in or that second one that comes in on the right?
The first one sounds like a theremin with a tremolo or something to me.
The second one, first things that come to mind are indeed the Warped Vinyl and the Cosmichorus.
You can ignore my whole story on vibes as that's probably not what you're looking for, whaha.
Though I must say the Black Cat Vibe, MG Vibe and VFE Enterprise have some of the nicest pitch vibrato sounds I heard so far in any pedal (that includes dedicated chorus / vibrato pedals).
Behringer UV300 could be a good one, or the BYOC one that's also a clone of the Boss VB-2.
Pretty soon I'll be having the Warped Vinyl here so I can give some more comments on that one.

Re: Recommend Vibes
It's the first sound (which is an ondes martenot, to be precise) but the clip might be confusing the issue.
I can produce the effect I want just doing vibrato on my guitar strings into a bsy600, but I want that effect on all the time. I guess that means I want a pitch vibe.
