Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
I'm in this same boat, I have the Akai E2 right now and it's good but short. I fill it up with the first loop and can't even overdub.psychedelicrelic wrote:After considering it for years, I've finally saved up the cash and got an EHX 2880 on the way should be here tomorrow. Ive tried the headrush and the dl4 but both seemed to dampen the sound I ran into it. The dl4 was super fun with reverse and half speed (or double speed). Ive had alot of fun with it. Ive heard the 2880 clips easily but I have all the volumes of my pedals pretty low to match my guitars max clean volume so we will see how that goes. Ive got my hopes up. It seems like it would be my perfect looper. If not, itll be in bst or ebay in a week.
I've had the DL4 but found it wasn't the best quality. But better than all the Boss stuff.
I use my EHX hazarai for weird drones and the freeze too.
So I'm in the market for the 2800 or the new EHX offering if it is better and doesn't create new problems.
Reggie Watts loves the 2800.
and thinking the new Digitech XT xpress for other stuff, which you can chain them together which is cool
what say you?

never really jived with any boss before either, but the new updated rc300 is pretty classy, check the features out. my board is all dr.scientist and mid-fi with the boss looper, i like boutique so it was hard even buying a boss but the features are fucking awesome.

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
Is the digitech finally out? Ive been waiting on that bitch forever. Too late now because I love the 2880. I almost sold it a few times in the past few months for something simpler but its so damn useful. And the sample quality is great. Its my greatest tool in recording my guitar. 2880 is the best looper on the market for my needs. I heard the 45000 is the same guts as 2880 just a few differences with memory card and foot switch. Get one. I have no regrets.decomposing wrote:I'm in this same boat, I have the Akai E2 right now and it's good but short. Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
awesome this is what I wanted to hear
I heard that it's hard to switch tracks via the footswitch or something to that effect
any limitations on that because it's a 4 track right?
need to do more research and sell my akai e2, any takers?
but yes I love EHX and the way they think.
and yeah I think the digi is out, think I'm getting that as my main looper for now as I can swap it out easier for funds available
cheers!

2880 rulezzz... I even figured out how to use it as a delay... Never had a problem switching tracks or anything with the footswitches... It can do pretty much what everyone says they want in a looper plus you can use a big memory card and make it a real 4 track recorder if you want with 5+ minutes of record on each track...

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
ok the only thing I see is that there is no undo feature on either.
so you would need a looper before it that did and get the loop right then pass it onto the EHX for mixing,
clear the first one when it's going on the EHX and then repeat to build certain tracks
but if it had undo I could see just using that one.
oh well, that's life.
oops...
FROM THE AMAZON REVIEWS...
This looper gets some of the basics done: you can create loops of up to four tracks and have a fifth to mix them down on. Using the SD card, you can bank a bunch of loops. You can quantize and sync to an external MIDI. That said, there are some huge design flaws that to me make this thing way too expensive for what it can do. First and foremost, there is no erase/edit option. That means if you have a drum line looped and you make a mistake while looping another layer, you either waste a track or have to throw the whole loop away. These mistakes are easy to make because of another serious design flaw. You can do overdubs, but doing so reduces the volume of the original track to the point of being unusable. What does that mean? If after making a drum track, you want to make a bass track but you take slightly to long to press the button, the quantize feature doesn't save you because you immediately go into overdub mode and the volume at the beginning of your bass track is basically inaudible compared to the rest of your track. Another design flaw is that although there is a tempo slider, there is no screen to tell you what the tempo is, making it all but impossible to match up separate loops to transition between. I'm sure that there are some who can use this pedal, but I am returning the thing.

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
Was that second paragraph from something else???
I don't use the quantize and gave up using it with midi... I set the tempo slider all the way down like Reggie and just use it like a recorder... Undo is a dumb feature that I never use and the volume will only drop if the vol. slider for that track is turned down...
After all the threads and posts about loopers I'm still not sure what yall expect from them...

and these are all valid points, I don't really those things either. I love the akai e2 just wish it had more space or a card slot.
so the EHX fits the bill then with those pointers I think.
if they made an e3, I'd be all over it!

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
My 2880 does have volume drops but only when im on like the 10th overdub. Like theres no infinite overdubbing, older loops fade out, which I prefer anyway. Ive tried everything to get the midi to work for me but, like soni, gave up on it. I would love an undo, I fuck up sometimes, dont need it, its just convenient. And the foot switches are wonky sometimes, ill have to trade them out for soft switches soon.
I might pick up a few xpress xt anyway. I want to layer vocals and guitar but through different chains, but in sync. Oh oh! Then both chains into 2880! Then into the computer.

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
guess I'm still leaning to the digitech xt xpress for a live looping tool, or at least a couple of them
any other votes for a live looper that battles the akai e2?
I found this on ehx loopers that kinda sucks for guitarists, plus the foot controller for the new one is meh
2800 all the way!
"But there's no New Loop button on the foot controller - the manual mentions that specifically. It seems a very odd choice of functionality for a looping device.
Ahhh yes, right... that is dumb.
For what its worth, my gripes are the tempo/pitch slider adjustment only moving in 1/2 step increments (par for the course for EHX looping in the past decade) and only being able to use that in overdub mode, same goes for the reverse and 1/2 speed features..."

Re: THE LOOPING/LOOPER/OVERDUB THREAD
Had an akai e2. Loved it and miss it but didn't really wanna loop anymore so I sold it. Now I jam the jamman xt after having a ditto. Love the thing. Didn't take long to get it down. Definitely different since it's a one button affair but playing within those limits is pretty natural for me.
Got rid of the akai because I was doing too much looping and now I'm back and using it a minimal amount for small fragments of songs or very noisy build ups. The jam sync options seem very fun.
