Finally got around to swapping my stem for a shorter nitto. Also a couple close up shots of another bike i ride with an internal hub and gates belt drive.

for me there is always silence. but that's mostly the belt drive and lack of any chain slap again the frame etc. on my derailleur mtb i've got it dialed in and its pretty silent too, but there will be noises, and maintenance to keep it clean and dialed in and oiled up. always straight chainline. shifting without pedaling. no problem shifting when going up steep grade under high pressure, similar to shimano's rapid rise but there is just no problem at all. no maintenance. never feel that between gears moment. lower gear ratio. heavier than standard hub, but also means sturdier rear wheel. no oil on leg/pants. no gear tattoo but that's belt drive related. I've had no problems so I have not had to open it up....and if I do??????

If set up within the parameters it feels like a chain only dead silent, no slop. Not quite like a chain that's too tight. Just..right. I know the tolerances are pretty small with a chain/sprocket, but I can still feel it 'engage'. just dont' get that feel with a belt. I've only ridden it on the bike with the internal hub, I imagine on a track or fixie it would feel super responsive as well. The chain line needs to be straight is the only issue, or the belt could walk off alignment, I've never had that problem, and gates has a new version out with a V cut down the middle of the belt that sits in raised part of the sprockets. I've been riding it for years with no issue.

Strong....very. I think on their website they same it meets or exceeds the requirements for a chain drive.

thanks man…i'm gonna look into that. I saw a bike a few weeks ago that had it…i'd never seen it before. The fact that it has minimal maintenance etc is a definite plus!

The only downside is you need a frame designed for it, or you need to slice a tube so you can get the belt on. alot of the more trick versions have the split where the rear axel goes through area...can't think of the term. and you def need horizontal dropouts

I've barely been on my bike in the past 6 weeks, but tonight was gorgeous and I burned around with my local bike group for almost thirty miles. I'm going to be sore as shit tomorrow but holy hell it was fun. I want new handle bars; currently have moderately wide risers, can't decide between narrow straight bars or bullhorns...

Check out these narrow straight bullhorns from nitto. they're stainless steel too i've got em just straight, but NOW they offer these

i like these nitto ones...my only issue is any type of flat bars means that i struggle keeping my head up through traffic...i need risers.

The Charge stuff is quite good they have a good rep in UK
